Looks like one of the last anti-liberal rants got us jerked off the air again, so I wanted to get us back up quickly. If the other thread is returned, we can decide which one to go with. Just didn't want us all to feel even more displaced than we already tend to do.

The thread is temporarily off the boards for one of the conservative people's posts. I am getting very annoyed about leaving warnings on threads and having them be ignored.

The thread will probably be back later and I will merge them for you so it will be one thread so you don't have to decide.

So I've been thinking about Reagan in the context of comparing him to my grandmother, who was born one year before Reagan. It is amazing how much the world changed in their lifetimes. I know how hard of a time my grandmother had with many of the societal changes that took place, especially in the last 40 years. Compared to her, Reagan was quite progressive! I think it's easy to forget what all Reagan actually lived through, what experiences shaped him. And it's easy to forget about what sort of a mess he inherited when he first took office.

I've heard some fantastic speakers in the last few days and have been so pleasantly surprised by both republicans and democrats who worked with him who have really great memories of what a great person he was. I even thought Daschle did a nice job in his remarks. I *love* the thought of Reagan and Tip O'Neil sitting up in heaven together watching all of the nonsense going on down here!

take-heart, abimommy- I think the "offensive" post was one of a few newbies to our thread.... Im sure a small request to eddit would straighten things out...?

it wasnt.
Least I dont think so... It was a follow up from another "newer" poster to our threadds..... they were goin off of it i believe. Although I admit I am curious as I think the poster that is in question was reffering to Libreals in general.... not OUR specific liberals in activism. so I dunno whats up??
Dont worry, NM! abimommy will fix us up good!

I wonder if some crazy <insert description here> person will decide to sue the government because they played the Battle Hymn of the Republic and a public prayer was offered in the Capitol building....

Thanks, Beth. I like my sig too! I almost changed it today to a Reagan quote, but I couldn't find one that I really, really liked that would fit in the 2-line limit.

I appreciate Kerry taking the high road as well. I personally think it would have been very detrimental for him politically had he not, though. He knows what a popular president Reagan was.

As I was watching the ceremony tonight I really was reminded how lucky I am to be a woman born in the US. I realize that the pomp and circumstance of this president's funeral is especially meaningful for someone like me since I am a conservative and a christian, but I truly believe that I would be touched and have reverence for this process regardless of who the president in the casket was. I think our traditions, the etiquette, the respect, etc. are all so important. I would like to think that when Carter and Clinton pass on, I'll be encouraging my girls to watch the funerals with reverence and respect. I vividly remember the first time I was in DC as a teen and walking up to the eternal flame at the Kennedy site. It was very emotional for me as I thought about his service, his tragic death, the suffering that the family and much of the country felt--and I was firmly in the Right camp then, maybe even more to the right than I am now. It should transcend the day-to-day political battles and it's difficult for me not to lose respect for people who can't see that. But I'm trying. I truly am. Keep chanting to self...It's not my place to judge, it's not my place to judge, it's not my place to judge...

Dd wants to look up to see which presidents were democrats and which were republicans. I told her that there have been other parties. This will make a good learning project for the summer.

I've only seen part of the funeral today. Very respectful.

Oh well, thier poor taste reflects badly on them not us. if choose not to hoonor a fallen dignitary then so be it. They have made thier feelings clear that they wish to no way be associated with America that is thier choice. let them pout in the corner if they want to, I could care. (not that that is going to stop me from going to france next year :LOL - i should not go in protest ro thier pissy attitude but it has been a dream forever. I will just be sure to avoid the government officials.)
