Okay, so I TOTALY am in love with the name

Skyler Jeremiah

for a boy. The problem is that we have a friend that says Skyler is too feminine. And I did a poll on my other board and the majority say it's too girly for a boy, also. Do you think that it is?

ETA: A lot of people on the other board have spelled it SkylAr and I do think that is a giry spelling. Which is why it is SkylEr

Thank you in advance for your votes/input.

I think Skyler is a great name for a boy (and I love the name Jeremiah!).

(Re spelling: While the Skylers I have met were both boys, the only Schuyler I've ever met was a girl.)

I'm afraid that's one of those names that is steadily becoming a crossover. Schuyler is a boy's name, and I know two older men, in their fifties or sixties, who are Schuylers. But right now I know five little girls under the age of six who are Skylers or Skylars or Skylas. Right now I would NOT name a boy Skyler; it's a name that is rapidly growing in popularity, and is predominantly female right now.

It screams trendy girl name to me. I think it might be hard for a boy to have a name that girls have, even i the name is GN. Once a name goes girl- it goes off my list for a boy. My neighbor's son is Taylor, and at 15 he HATES his name saying too many girls have it. Never mind he is the 5th Taylor in his family!

It very interesting to see the different takes on it and I've learned a lot of good info, too.

I'm with her. Except that I'll say it sounds totally 80's preppy. Like a snotty rich girl.

Jeremiah, on the other hand, is a great name.

The only person I know in real life named Skyler is a man in his early 20s. The only time I've heard it used as a girl's name is Pamela Anderson's character on Stacked.

Skyler is soo not a girly name. In fact, if anything, too many girls are getting named BOYISH names, not the other way around. Boy names are soo hard to come up with as is, I think its great you aren't wanting to name him something boring and typical. I am very critical of names, and I actually really like your idea for a name! You're right though, spelling it Skylar would be feminine. The first and middle name sound great together too! Nice choice!

ETA: it sounds just like Tyler does it not? What GIRL names rhyme with Skyler? None that I can think of!

DSS is named Schyler (same pronunciation) so I think it's fine. In fact I associate the name with a boy because of it. It's never crossed my mind that it was feminine or girly at all
