Dh brought home a couple of pomegranates. Neither of us had ever seen or eaten one fresh before. We were standing there looking at it when dd (3.5 yo) came in, took one look and said "Pomegranate!"

She pulled up her 'learning tower' (a cheap step stool cut it open on the countertop, showed us how to scoop out the insides and eat it.

She said she learned it from Waldorf.

LOL! I am laughing because we are a foodie family (I own a baking business and I am a former chef and cooking teacher).
Anyways, the kids are meant to bring a vegetable on Tuesday and a fruit on Thursday.
We always send unusual stuff if we can because I think it's good to expose the kids to stuff they may not have tried before.

Well, the first time we sent in a pomegranate, there was a big uproar! The kids were thrilled with it and were all talking about it the next day and requesting them from their parents.

BUt they are an excellent seasonal and festive fruit for this time of the year!

chop it in half or quarters and pick out the seeds and eat them all up.

My 4 yo dd took the seeds out of one for me today and now our kitchen looks like the inside of a shower at the Bates Motel. What was I thinking?

Here's a quick way to enjoy the fruit.
First slice a pomergranate in half. Fill a bowl with water and place the pomergranate inside. Wait a minute or two and gentle nudge the fruit from the membrane while it's still underwater. The membrane will float to the surface and the seeds will fall to the bottom.
