OK--this is kinda gross but I was wondering if any of you ladies are experiencing the same thing. You poo and then 5 minutes later you have to poo again. It's 11:30 and I have done it 4 x. WTH?

Almost like you can't do the deed entirely in one sitting. This is getting annoying, to say the least. I'm sort of afraid to leave the house for fear I'm not done yet...

Anyone else experiencing this? The OB said that it's normal to develop pregnancy -related IBS or to vacillate between constipation and the runs.

Fun stuff.

And to think I was like that BEFORE I got pregnant. You can imagine what it's like now. Gallbladder removal did it for me lol. I really need to talk to the doc about it, because I really don't eat that many greasy foods.

I don't know with poo but with pee, as the uterus gets bigger, the pressure against the bladder keeps it from emptying all the way. That is why many women get UTIs during pregnancy... something to do with the bacteria not getting flushed out. Maybe the uterus also presses against the intestines affecting the poo.

I'm no expert, but I've been thinking about your question, and I've come up with a few ideas.

Diet:
What you are eating. Is there something in your diet that might not be agreeing with you? It doesn't have to be something new, keep an eye out for that.
When you are eating your heaviest/largest or most protein high meal. That changes the time of day when you go, also might be effecting frequency.
When you are eatting. When pregnant you are more likely to snack all day, then sit down and eat one large meal, this might be causing your body to not have that regular 'build up' in your intestines.
What you are eatting. Try to eat fiber rich foods, and cut out any grease/spices.

Hormones. When PMSing I can always expect a different textured poop, I can safely assume the same with pregnancy!

Pressure. Pressure on your intestines might be making the food trips slower, mixed in with your already 'lazy' intestines, and you get oddly timed poop.

Things to try to see if it helps any.

Excercise helps me have to go. Gets everything moving and helps push past any pressure blocks. Go slow.
Lots and lots of water. Key to a healthy gut.
A warm bath before the time you think you are going to have to go. Warm water relaxes the bowels and helps move things along more comfortably.
Eat well.
RELAX on the toilet. Don't force or stress out. It is only poop. Worst thing would be pooping in public, and I'm sure people can forgive a pregnant woman!
Make sure to wipe gently and maybe use a warm cloth to help prevent roids. Nothing worst than roids and constant poop!

I know there was something else I was thinking of, but it has slipped my mind. I will add it in when/if I remember.

Hope things improve, but I'm sure it is just another pregnancy phase. Try to enjoy yourself.

ETA: Also, don't eat anything that would normally make ones stool very soft, like 2 cans of beans, or prunes, dates, etc, unless your poop is very firm (doesn't sound like it).
You might also look into cutting out dairy, atleast in the form of milk to help your body out.
And here is one other thing you might want to try. Drink a cup of decafe coffee, wait until you really really have to go, and hope for the best. Coffee always kick starts my gut.

AND something else. hahahah. Eat a nice hearty (homemade if you can) bran muffin. Add some blueberries for taste. I always eat them for breakfast if I am feeling backed up, and by the next morning, it is usally smooooth sailing. Nice big bran muffin though, not those tiny muffin break ones!

HTH.

10-15 min of potty time is just not enough for me anymore. Bring your books, laptop, a tv if you can, whatever you need into the bathroom so you can get "finished." Sometimes, I just get up and walk around a bit knowing I'm not finished because it gets boring/claustrophobic in there, then go back. I agree w/ PP, some exercise can really get your bowels more active, just walking down every aisle of the grocery store whether I need to or not does help me quite a bit. Also, a small (very small) cup of coffee if you drink that can help.
