NEW TO WOOL!

I LOVE my new Loveybums covers but my dd keeps pooping on them! (We have mostly pfs and cant afford ANYTHING right now---the LBs were a necessity cuz she grew out of everything else.)

First--do you usually just spot clean small little stains out under cold water and reuse? Or do you need to do the gentle wash for any and all poop?

Second--When you do the gentle wash it says not to agitate the wool too much (i do it by hand) but I cant seem to get the poop out of the little ruffly leg edges w/out some good rubbing. Will this damage the wool?

Third--Can you wash too often? Just washed one cover yesterday, then dd pooped on it (alot) this morning, so twice in 24 hours!

And Fourth--I have Eucalan wash. Does this count as lanolizing when i wash with this? Is it like 2 steps in one? Better to do it separately? I think thats why I'm wondering if you can wash/lanolize too much cuz I think this product combines the 2 steps. Maybe I should just use a regular, gentle soap.

THANKS SO MUCH!!

Ahh.. don't you hate that when baby poops in the nice woolies? My dd went through a phase there for awhile that no matter what I did, she timed her poops perfectly for when she was in her Loveybums and her pretty pink one at that! I almost gave up on wool for a time, because it got so old washing it out every single day. I love my yummy smelling wool wash, but enough is enough. One benefit was that my laundry room smelled heavenly everyday.;-)

Anyway, the way I clean poop out of the wool is to spray off what I can with my diaper sprayer, then finish up stubborn spots in the sink with a bit of wool wash or baby shampoo.. gently rubbing. I didn't have to do that too often, because usually the majority of the poop was contained in the diaper. Dd would usually dirty it just enough that it had to be washed. I never tried just spot treating. I washed the whole cover. I use Naturally Luxe(formerly Monkey Sudz) WOW wool wash. It has a high enough lanolin concentration that I don't have to lanolize as a separate step, ever. Eucalan does not count as lanolizing, imo. To lanolize, you can use Lansinoh. Dissolve a pea size amount of Lansinoh in a cup of water in the microwave. Add to a sink of tepid water, swirl to mix thoroughly and add cover. Let soak 15min, do not rinse, gently squeeze out water. Lay flat to dry. You can do that immediately following washing the wool, or even mix the melted lanolin in with the Eucalan and do it as one step. I'd say you only need to use the Lansinoh once every few weeks, not every time you wash the wool(especially if you're washing daily). You'll know you need to lanolize again when the covers seem like they're a little too humid after your baby wears them. At least that's what I go by.

I find that a well-lanolized cover actually cleans easier and I *can* just spot clean it. If there is just a spot of poop, I rinse it off in the sink with my sprayer, and then use a wool wash bar to spot clean that spot. I rub pretty well. You need HOT and agitation to felt, which is much more difficult to do by hand than one would suspect. I rub mine pretty good to get stuff out. Then rinse and let dry.

I usually just knock off poop with a wool wash bar. They are pretty cheap and they last a long time as long as you get a wood soap deck. I think I paid between $6-10 for both the block and the bar like four months ago and I still have a LOT left.
