I posted this originally in LWAB, but I thought that some of you mamas here could answer this questions for me as well.

Hi everyone!

My nine week old DD rarely poops while in a diaper (we CD). She much prefers to be lying on her back completely nakey with legs up in the air.

Sometimes I think she's "holding it" until we take off her diaper.

Any ideas why she does this?

My ds did this from birth, with both poop and pee---it's one of the main reasons we started EC'ing. I think, by instinct, babies don't like having waste by their bodies; it's that simple. Take advantage of this and try out EC! We just started by holding him over a bowl as soon as we took off his diaper, and our communication grew from there

Dumb question - How do I hold her? Under the armpits or in a diferent position?

When my DD was little I'd face her away from me with one arm around her chest and one under her knees generally over the toilet. When she was able to hold up her head I'd put the baby bjorn potty up on a table and sit facing her while holding her under her arms. Now she's 6 mos and sits on the baby bjorn by herself with me closeby to make sure she doesn't tumble. LOL!!

I used to hold him under his upper thighs, with his back resting against my abdomen.

Just follow your DD's lead and you will have a big leg up on EC. A lot of us EC moms would love it if our kids understood our cues so consistently.
