is this something that is outgrown?

Tracy is 17 months old and it was that he pooped outside of the tub...all over the floor and after he got out of the tub all the way to the living room till he got a diaper on.

Is it because he has learned he can poop if he wants? Is it the water?

My mom said my little sister did it too.... is my son the only one??

Relaxing and water can get things going.

Also could it be an issue of constipation? I use to do it and several other family members. My son started having issues that, we now know, was related to chronic constipation. The softer stuff was coming out before the harder stuff and there was no control. Talking to family members and reviewing history signs of chronic constipation and other bm issues were there.

My son had a pattern of small bm's some time several a day then once a week to two he would bm "balls" and then literally filling the toilet/diaper.

Praise, Praise, and gentle encourage him to put it in the potty just like mom and dad
This is the plan and has been for awhile but I keep forgetting to set back the money in order to buy one!

Funny, both my kids were *scared* when they pooped in the tub. They'd dance away from it and oh-oh-oh until I got them out and cleaned things up! Just one time each and that was it (around 1yo for both of them).

Is it possible to put him over the toilet if he starts to squat or grunt or whatever his signal is while in the tub? It might work - it does with mine (before DD was using the toilet regularly and now with my son, if I could catch them squatting with that certain stare I would put them over the toilet and they'd go). In any case, I wouldn't let him be running around while he was pooping. I didn't know kids even really did that? I'd keep him in one spot, if you can.

Argh! Ds has been doing this more and more lately and he is 27 months. I even have a special pooper scooper in the bathroom. He only does it when I bath him, never dh. I am going to get one of those toilet seats that sit on top of the regular seat and ask him to poo poo before he gets in the tub. So, no I don't think it is outgrown, at least in my case.

When I put him over the big potty he tenses up...

The first time he did it was out of the tub just outside of it. He bent over it and had this look on his face...what is THAT! Then he started to laugh...I ended up throwing out the bathroom rug because he was too entertained!

I don't want it to seem like a bad thing but I certainly don't want him pooping all over the floor!

(incidently, the last time he did it I didn't know he had squatted in the hall. Well, I hear dh screaming WHAT IS THIS!!! I ende up cleaning dh's feet...he had found the poop on his own!

I thought farting in the bathtub was absolutely hilarious until I was about 8
. That's totally embarassing to admit, but I guess it's kinda funny! I never pooped, though. Ds pooped on me in the bathtub once, but he was only about 6 weeks old, so it wasn't deliberate. Each of my nieces did it once when they were 18 months and 22 months old, and were so thrown by their dad's reaction (he pulled them out of the tub very quickly; not roughly, but not the slow, "let's play games with the towel" way that he usually does) that they never did it again. They liked playing in the water too much, and the poop ended playtime.

MY two year old did it once about 6 months ago and has not since so I do believe they outgrow. My nephew just did this a few days ago, he'll be 2 in november. Don't worry once they realize what it is they don't want it in the tub with them at least in my daughters case.

My dd did this while we were taking a shower...she was sitting in her little shower-boat (a laundry basket) and I was lathering up my hair. I closed my eyes for maybe 30 seconds to rinse, looked down, and it was floating all around her...she apparently had been spashing, too....it was everywhere! :puke I was so immensely grossed out I had to throw away the basket and get a new one.
She was about one. She never did it again...
