Hello all!

We are not getting the poops. I am not stressed about it, just looking for some ideas. He will poop every morning about 15 minutes after waking, unless I hold him on the potty (or anywear for that matter). If I hold him to poo, he will not do it. He waits until another time. He is happy to be on the potty, he plays with me, he will pee for me, just no poos. Before we had our month long "trial period", we always caught the poos, they were easy. I have just sort of figured he like to poo the way he is (stinks for me, but what can I do?).

I have thought maybe he likes to be reclined, as he is normally lying down when he goes, but he doesn't like my held reclined positiions. Any other ideas for me? He will go as long as a day and a half waiting... oh, and I need to say, he is not stressed out about it at all, at least from what I can figure... waiting may seem like a stress, but he is very cheerful about all of it. I usually let him alone for two days, and try again the next....

Thoughts for me??

how old is he? Maybe he would just like privacy? I remember as a kid going to a private place to "do my business" in diapers. Of course, that doesn't mean a thing if he's too young to hold his head up or sit.

I make kind of farting noises with my lips to get poo. Does he have any warning farts? Maybe just watch him one day, and as soon as he looks like he's gonna poo, take him to the pot?

My DS is having a hard time now with pooping too, he's getting a little bit of solid food and I think it's screwing up his schedule and he won't poo for me on the pot too much. Or maybe I haven't figured out the signal yet....

Catching poo is a chance thing for us. DS (6.5 months old) doesn't poop on a regular or predictable schedule. We do catch them in the potty sometimes though if he sits there long enough and the time is right. I think a lot of it is just luck at the moment... sorry that probably wasn't too helpful...

Early on when DS would start to poop (could tell by the look in his eye) in the diaper I would just pick him up and make the sound and let him finish in the diaper. I tried rushing him in and that seemed to throw him off and he wouldn't go or got fussy. I just made the sound to keep aware of how I communicated pooping, I did the same if he happened to pee in the bath or elsewhere.

if you know when he is about to go, try to catch him in the act and get him to the potty...be prepared to whip off that diaper! afterwards, give him lots of praise and kisses so he associates the poos as a good thing!
