So DS (2.75) has had cold symtoms since this past weekend. Well all of a sudden today, he took a downward turn and spiked a fever. Got up to 103.3. So I called our ped (who just left the practice we were with and is starting his own). He couldn't work us in until tomorrow morning. DH really wanted to get DS in tonight. So we got an evening appt with the practice our ped just left. The nurse practitioner said ear infection and said abx. I asked if she was sure that we were dealing with bateria... and she said that if it had started with a fever and then had lingering symptoms, she would have thought virus. But since he's had symptoms for 5-6 days and is NOW spiking a fever that is a good indication of bacteria and the need for abx. Okay, that explanation is good enough for me.

Next question: is DS good about taking oral meds... in short... no.

So she wanted to give him a shot of abx. But for his weight, they had to give him two shots

I was nursing him, but during the first shot, he twisted his arm out my grasp, and grabbed the needle as she was injecting the medicine... he was trying to yank it out. She was trying to hold it in and restrain his hand at the same time. DH jumped in and pried DS's hand off the needle. The nurse finished the injection and when she laid the needle down, it was bent We made it through the second shot with all 3 of us holding him down. And they kept us there for 20 minutes to monitor for any reactions. For about 5 minutes after the shots, he kept crying "NO MORE HURTY STUFF! I DON'T WANT IT! I DON'T NEED IT!" Poor little guy.

We will follow up with our ped in the morning.

I'm not really looking for medical advice... I guess it was just a sucky thing to have to go through. I am a little worried about the injection site on that first leg. The nurse said it would probably bruise because of how he fought it. I hope it isn't too sore tomorrow. I remember after my kdg booster shot, I couldn't walk the next day because I had strained so much during the shot. I remember crawling down the hall at my school because my leg was so sore where they had given me the shot. I hope DS doesn't have that tomorrow.

Ooh, poor babies - both of you! Just wanted to send some good wishes. A fever spike like that would have scared me! Good that you got in to see the Dr.
