Maybe this can be a stickied item that everyone can add their empowering quotes and affirmations to?<br><br>
My counselor suggested finding a daily affirmation book or calendar months ago, but I never found one that truly fit for me. What I did do is write down little quotes when I found something that really hit home for me and spoke to something inside of me that helped me to keep going and to keep fighting...<br><br>
I'd be awesome to gain more positive/empowering quotes/affirmations, and this could be something that could help all of us.<br><br><br>
I have two sticky notes on my desk with quotes that really struck home for me that I read throughout my day that help me through and remind me why I finally left and why even though it's painful and hard, why it's best for me to stay gone.<br><br>
The first I've had on my desk for quite some time, months, actually. I caught my eye from an article here on Mothering, called "Parenting with the Weight of the Past." by Craig Idlebrook.<br><br>
~ "It's a risk worth taking. If the choice comes down to holding onto the ghosts of my childhood or giving my daughter a childhood with fewer ghosts, there's really no choice at all."<br><br><br>
The second is from Lundy Bancroft's book "Why does he do that?"<br><br>
~ "You may have gone through dark times when you felt, "I just can't fight anymore, I give up," yet you rebound after awhile to try again to recover your rights. And one day you WILL succeed."

One thing that occurred to me one day that I used to have posted on my fridge:<br><br>
"It's not because of what I didn't do, it's because of what he DID do."<br><br>
For those days when I was feeling unjustified in leaving and wondering what I could have done "better" to change the course of events. I had to remember that he chose his behavior and that I *did* change mine to try to placate him (and then promptly got yelled at because when I walked around "all nervous" it made him mad).

I like this from Eleanor Roosevelt:<br><br>

This is how you change<br>
When you go to the orchard<br>
Where the heart opens:<br><br>
Don't pray to be healed<br>
Or look for evidence<br>
of some other world.<br>
You are the soul<br>
And the medicine for what wounds the soul.<br>

I love this one as well!<br><br><br>
“We can never judge the lives of others, because each person knows only their own pain and renunciation. It's one thing to feel that you are on the right path, but it's another to think that yours is the only path.” Paulo Coelho

I also like the quote in my sig, which I think means -- you have to claim whatever power you have, even if you are in chains.

here's another... this is an edited version, but all i could find online.<br><br>
One morning, I went to a place beyond dawn,<br><br>
a source of sweetness that flows and is never less.<br><br>
I have been shown a beauty<br><br>
which is beyond imagining!<br><br>
….We have baskets of fresh bread<br><br>
upon our heads,<br><br>
yet we go door to door<br><br>
begging for crusts.<br><br>
Knock on the inner door,<br><br>
no other!<br><br>
….We’re like pearls in the shell<br><br>
on the bottom of the ocean saying<br><br>
“Where’s the water?”<br><br>
….These mental questionings form the barrier.<br><br>
Beg for love expansion.<br><br>
Meditate only on that!

i get a daily tarot email (single card) sort of like getting your daily horoscope emailed. the explanation for my card today was really perfect for me right now (as it usually is!), so i hope it's okay if i share that (edited for brevity):<br><br>
"I am true to myself and will only regret the chances I don't take. I turn away from that which does not honor or sustain my passion and love, and in this, I am not afraid to be alone. I am empowered to move forward and my gift is letting go."

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." ~Mark Twain<br><br>

"One who lives life with passion is like a brightly burning fire. A small, dim fire can easily be extinguished by gusts of wind, but a large, bright one will grow bigger as the wind grows stronger. In the same way , the more obstacles a passionate person encounters, the brighter and stronger that person grows." ~Taro Gold
