We my have a job opportunity in Montgomery Alabama....anyone from there what to share generally what the area is like.

Also, I would specifically like to know if there are any free standing birth centers or homebirth MW's (and what the legal status is) and what the laws are regarding homeschooling and what other educational options are there - private, public, special, co-op schools.....

Hi GRace!
I laughed when you said free-standing birth center. We all wish it were a reality. There are homebirth midwives in Montgomery and the surrounding areas. One caught my friend's baby just a few weeks ago! Midwives are both legal and illegal here. I doubt you will find a doc in Montgomery who would be a knowing back-up for a homebirth.

Public schools in Mtgy are not good. There may be a couple of good magnet schools, but many send their children to VERY EXPENSIVE public schools. I have no clus about the homeschool climate there.
