Okay, we're still debating which job offer my dh should take and we need to see the areas more. One at the top of the list is Sebastopol, but we've only been there once and it was a very short visit.

What do we need to see in the area that will convince us this is the place to live??? What about other towns to look at when we're deciding on housing?

Thanks!

I think you might be very happy with Sebastopol... much of the area around it are smaller little places... Santa Rosa is a big-ish town, but Sebastopol is lovely.

Sebastopol is a lovely little hippie town. We live in Guerneville, which is about 15 mintues away. We go to Sebastopol a lot.

The ocean is near by, but, it still gets pretty warm despite being so close. In Guerneville is Armstong National Woods which is great for hiking and walking around. Lots of wonderful little shops to look at in Sebastopol. In Guerneville there is the Russian River which is great fun. Kayaking, Canoeing, etc.
There really is a wide variety of great fun around here. Lots of great nature-adventures to be had.

I don't think you would be disappointed at all moving to this area. DH and I were just talking today about how absolutely beautiful it is here and how we are so lucky to live in such a great place!

We love Sebastopol and are trying really hard to move there as soon as possible. My sister lived there for years.

One of the things that convinced us to move there was taking a drive along Coleman Valley Rd. from Occidental to Rt 1 (and the ocean). It is an unbelievably, beautiful drive that reminded us of Scotland.

This is just what I needed to hear. My dh and I worked in Scotland twice since we've been together and while we didn't want to stay there permanently (weather and isolation on the Western Isles), we loved it.

Thanks for the suggestion, we're going next week!

Another Sebastopol lover here! We lived there for a few months and it would be our town of choice if it could work out for us right now. We live in Santa Rosa now, but would rather be in West County area. It's just beautiful, and Sebastopol is a wonderful, family-friendly town. Babies and kids are all over, and I always felt safe walking around town. We also used to live in Guerneville (hi Sparkle Mama!) and wow is it gorgeous out there. It's a nice town to visit. You can stop there on the way to the ocean. This really is a spectacular place to live.

What a coincidence. We lived in Scotland for about four months while my husband worked in Edinburgh.

Hopefully, we'll be seeing you in Sebastopol....

There is a great place near there too for the kids to play in the ocean. It is called Dillon Beach and it is a private, family beach. It is only like $5 dollars to park there and there are the most lovely sand dunes and the surf isn't too terrible (like bodega bay! this place can be very dangerous for little ones!). We take a few trips to Dillon Beach every summer...

I grew up in Sebastopol and my mom still lives there and my sister works there. I love to visit when I can and we alway end up going to the beach there even tho I live next to one in Santa Cruz. Its just much more "wild" up there. Coleman Valley Rd is a great drive, take it when you are heading out so you can get the best ocean views. Sebastopol itself has changed alot since I was growing up, it has become more touristy in my opinion, but has managed to hang onto the small town feel. Another drive to do is Hwy 116 into Guerneville and out to Jenner along the Russian River. Redwoods and wineries to enjoy along the way.

Have fun!

I'm not sure if this is up your alley, but both of these places are very cool to visit, even just for a quick visit:

http://www.californiacarnivores.com/
http://www.bamboosourcery.com/
