I'm 39 weeks, and after intercourse I had some bleeding. This is the first bleeding I've had the entire pregnancy. It's bright red/pink, and it isn't mucousy. There were even a few clots. Is this normal? What does it mean? I'll talk to my midwife tomorrow, but in the meantime was wondering what others thought.

I think you likey burst a small blood vessel but I am sure your MW will be able to take a look and let you know what she thinks. Are you still bleeding or was it just for a short time?

Well, it's been about 12 hours and I still notice it when I use the bathroom. It's very light, but it's still brighter in color.

Maybe you are going into labor. I bleed the same way when my labor began. But, I would definitely call your midwife to be sure ;-)

I'm hoping it's labor , but since nothing else seems to be going on, I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I can't get ahold of my midwife, and I don't want to call her emergency number since that's pretty much only if I'm in labor. I guess right now it's just wait and see. Thanks for the help!

As long as its light I wouldn't worry, it probably is from sex (can happen from a pelvic exam at that point too) or possibly from labor getting going. I had very similiar bleeding (not mucousy) as I was heading into early labor with my dd (never got to see how that all worked out since I went in for an induction- long story). Hope this means your baby is coming soon!

ANY time you have bright red blood (especially if its not mucousy at the end, and there are clots) you should call your midwife immediatly. There could be a problem with the placenta that would be an emergency.

Okay, I finally talked to my midwife. She's not concerned since the amount of bleeding has been small. She think it's probably from me starting to dilate. If it increases, then she would be worried. It's started to slow down, so I think I'm okay.
