Hi all,

I'm mom to a beautiful 6-month old non-vaxxed boy. Each year, a bunch of our friends who are spread out all over the country get together and vacation together. This year, one proposed destination is Honduras... actually, we would rent out own little island (it's ridiculously cheap... we're no where near rich!) for a week. It seems like it would be fun (though very hot), and my family is in the midst of deciding if it's something we want to do/can swing monetarily.

I just checked the CDC's website to see what's 'recommended' for traveling to Honduras, and I would love some opinions on the matter. In addition to all of the 'routine' vax, they recommend vax for hep A and B, typhoid, and rabies. Then they have a recommended drug for malaria.

I'll be honest... I've done some research... enough no know that I don't want to vaccinate my son. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as many of you are. So, if you know, please tell me... do I need to worry about these diseases? I'm not concerned about MMR, the flu, Hep A or B, or rabies. I don't know anything about typhoid or about malaria. I'm not sure what our water/food source would be like... most likely we would be taking a boat from our island over to one of the neighboring villages to shop (I think). We will also be visiting Montana de Luz... an orphanage for HIV positive/AIDS children (a few of our friends have done work there). Other than that, we won't have much contact with people other than our circle of friends... as we would be on a private island.

Opinions? Please?

Thanks!
Becuase we travel to countries with the alerts as Hounduras, we decided to go with:

MMR
Dtap
Polio

Hep A is currently under debate in this house. So I can;t tell you yet what we decided.

If I ever travel to a country with a malaria recommendation, I would def be getting the prevention drugs. YOu can read about this here:

http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/contentMa...ugsPublic.aspx
