Is it *normal* for the baby's head to come down in front of the cervix??? My cervix is still very posterior. I've been having annoying contrax for almost 24 hours now... very little sleep last night b/c they were too uncomfortable to sleep through, couldn't really even lie down. I've lost tons of bloody mucous plug today. Yuck.
Just wondering... I'm so tired and I think if I could just relax and rest things would work out but it's hard to do that as it is.

My cervix was posterior with my third baby. I found it really painful. I carried her at zero station for the last 2 weeks of pregnancy and was +1 at 4 cm dilation. It was unnerving to have my OB reach under my baby to check my cervix. It also seemed that I did not dilate at quickly as my first two labors as the baby was not putting pressure on my cervix. Are you having back labor?

First of all
The never ending ctx always seems to be my way of laboring.
It's so not fun. Always gets me depressed and thinking that real labor will never begin.
This is what I know, Davina. It will be soon for you. You will have a baby sooner rather than later.
She has her perfect time and will come then. Your job is to tell her what awaits her peace and love and laughter and warm milk.

Ok, so let's see... reasons to be patient with yourself and your body... it sounds like your body is doing a lot of prep work right now. I saw your other post about the positioning of your babe. Those ctx could be trying to get her into the best position. The homeopathic and excercises can help the ctx be more effective. You're doing everything, beautifully, Davina. This is not easy. It's just not. You'll probably be elated when you go into full blown labor instead of this piddly annoying ick. Bloody show isn't the best indicator that birth is on it's way, but it's a nice sign. I'd take it as proof that you won't be pregnant for another week.

Since you're tired, I'll do some thinking for you:
Are you drinking enough fluids? Dehydration can lead to ctx that don't seem to do anything.
Have you walked today? Sometimes that stops ctx or puts them into labor.
Have you tried laying down through the ctx? Sometimes laying down can actually get the ctx going into a productive pattern OR it can make them stop. If you can try committing to laying down for a 1/2 hour to an hour it might shift the pattern either speed up or slow down.
Have you tried hands and knees rocking?
Can you go to a hot tub and relax? Your own bath tub?
Can you get a massage?
Lastly, but most importantly... DO YOU FEEL READY TO BIRTH THIS BABY?

Oh, I forgot to add that my cervix is always posterior. Maybe that's why I do the long ctx thing, before labor, too.
All in all, I don't think it's worth paying too much attention to. Just because you know it's posterior isn't going to change how you're feeling right now. Your body works beautifully, Davina. It knows what to do.

A Posterior cervix happens. YOur contractions may not be that effective becaseu the baby's head is not putting pressure on the right spot to open it up. YOu can try sitting"foreward" on a birth ball or getting on your hands and knees. After 27 hours of labor with dd3, My midwife actually had to "pull" my cervix foreward during a couple contractions, I was only 4 cm after 27 hours which was shocking when dd2 was born 45 min from first contraction to being plopped on the bed becaseu there was no one there to catch her. BUt after my midwife pulled my cervix foreward, I had her a few hours later. even after a labor hault for 3 hours at 8 cm. At first mention of transporting me to a hossy I started pushing at only 8 cm,(figureing i was having a c-sec anywayt so why not try) and 3 pushes later out she came.

Every baby is different, Try to realx, eat lots of healthy fuel food, and be patient with your body. stressing can actaully slow things down. Most nurses arent willing to hold you cervix foreward, but if you find one, let her, or have you MW or whoever is going to catch hte baby.....

Good luck
Sending all my doula labor vibes your way~~~~~~~

I'm trying to drink enough, but I'll try harder. Not much walking, about 10 minutes and that seemed to bring on a couple more contrax, but I had to leave the store so didn't get a real chance to see if it helped. Lying down is pretty uncomfortable. Last night I couldn't sleep much at all b/c lying down made these things pretty uncomfortable. I just got out of my shallow bathtub and feel a little more relaxed and ready to sleep.
I am pretty sure I"m ready. I have been really trying to think deep and see if there's something holding me back... I will keep searching and praying.

if you have drank some chamomile tea before you could try and drink some now it can either relax you enough to sleep or heat up the contractions

you could also try some belly lifting with your partner, or even a long single sheet tied into a belly band that may help

i could have just writtent his post. i came here looking for posterior cervix info. i could feel my cervix before waaay back there, but now this boy's big head is in the way.

i haven't had any mucus plug yet (well, possibly, but not bloody).

i only sit on the birth ball or tailor sitting on the floor, and i'm gonna try to do more hands and knees. i'm kinda dissappointed because i was so loving being able to feel my cervix again (after 5 years ttc, it got to be a regular habit, and it's been mia for months). but it is very neat to feel head down there!

I was told my cervix was posterior with Dd. I have been meaning to look into the issue more, because I was wondering if it was just one more piece of knowledge that didnt help me but rather hindered me with the impression that something needed to be "fixed" when really my body was doing what it needed to, in its own way, in its own time.

I am fairly certain that having my doula screw around doing stuff like hauling on my uterus with a sheet contributed to making me feel "messed with" and having a longer-than-necessary labor. As I say, I haven't done any research on the issue, but I really wonder whether posterior cervix poses any problems that are worth the extra intervention of belly-lifting and all that.

First off, CONGRATS ON YOUR BABY!

Second: I had (and still have) posterior cervix. It made self-checks while TTC almost impossible to achieve.
During labour, I went through almost a day without dilating because the pressure was focused in front of the cervix, not on it. My midwife told me NOT to labour on all fours, because that would make it worse. Instead what we did is have me sit on a birthing ball, and during contractions I would lean back onto the shoulders of a friend. We did this for 5-6 hours, and it worked! My cervix was then positioned correctly. My midwife said that if it hadn't, she would have had to 'walk' my cervix forward, which she warned could be very painful. I did NOT want to do that!

oht
funny b/c once i started listening to my body and doing what felt right, I sat on the toilet, braced myself on the wall next to me and would lean way back and sorta rock during contrax. About an hour later she was born, so I'm thinking it may have helped a bit. :LOL
Thanks for the congrats.

Way to listen to your body, Davina!!!

So... with my posterior cervix, I also learned that I needed to lean backwards as well. It was as if leaning forward didn't do a thing. (I was UC last birth until the last 45 mins, so no one was telling me what to do)

Davina, what position did you end up giving birth in? I haven't been able to push a baby out, except laying on my back in a modified squat. It's like I need to that backward gravity working for me... like I'm the 1% of women that the hospital modeled their positioning after! :LOL

I soooo would love to give birth in some other position though. Just to you know... do it in such a way that would be a little more private/powerful. I always wanted to squat or kneel and catch my own baby.

Soo.... what position were you in?
