Postpartum belly binding

1891 Views 25 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  Taryn237
I plan on doing postpartum belly binding and was just wondering what everyone else planned - if anything - in this department.

I really don't have the money to spend on one of the expensive Brooke Burke belly binders or anything, so I am thinking of picking up a few 6" ACE bandages and using those - I've read good things about that technique. I also have a Bella Band I might try if I'm not looking for heavy support.

Has anyone done belly binding in the past? What did you use/how long/how often/what were your results? Will you be doing it again?

subbing cux I've never heard of that before and I want to know if it works.
Here is a thread all about belly binding.

I plan on doing it this time around and will probably use some fabric I already have on hand

I just bought a Belly Bandit for this. I didn't particularly want to spend the $40, but I know I would not be consistant unless it was easy, and I really need the extra support for my bad back. If you google postpartum compression bands you get a whole bunch of different options for medical type belly binders. I don't really buy into the whole concept of the Belly Bandit, wear it and you will be thin instantly! Not likely. But I know I will benefit from the extra abdominal and back support.
I plan to get a Belly Bandit too. My mom has been asking me what I want for Christmas, so I am going to suggest this as a great gift idea. =-) I never did any belly binding after my three previous pregnancies...I simply was ignorant of the whole concept. Now that I have read up on it it makes so much sense to me and I can see how I will benefit.
if you just want to use fabric that you have on hand how would you tie it? I'm curious about this, and when I have time I'll be looking at the thread that was linked to. I'd never heard of this, so thanks for sharing the idea!!
I didn't do it with DD but I had planned to get some sort of support garment for after this pregnancy. I hated how wobbly I felt after I had the baby.

I found out from some of my Bosnian friends that most of the rest of the world has some sort of belly binding. Apparently, corsets were really good for this. Though, obviously not the tight lacing kind.

I'm probably just going to go to like Target or JC Penney or something and look for a belly support garment, preferably with some sort of 'boning' but not the rigid kind. I'm envisioning some sort of a thing with hooks like a bra hooks, only a bunch of them.

Just wrap the fabric round and around your belly, making sure it's tight. Tie off however seems comfortable, don't put any knots on your spine. And voila! figure back!

Laurel, thank you so much for posting this question, and Jojo, that link was invaluable. This is exactly the sort of thing I had been wondering about because last pregnancy, I felt so floppy afterwards. I don't how to describe it beyond that. I always learn something on here!

I din't plan on doing it, but my OB suggested I do it after my c-section. I'll see how I feel.

Come to think of it, I did bind my belly a few times after my first c-section. My friend made me a couple of binders that I still have.
Do you ladies think a snappi would work if I used the right type of fabric? I suppose I should give it a try.

Do you have a picture on hand? I'd like to see how she made them.

Oh my goodness I so want one of those! I hate that jiggly organ falling feeling. Ugh. Plus I can use all the help I can get with those terrible after pains.

Thanks for the info!
I am going to this time. Never thought of it with any of my others.

I am off to look at the belly bandit now.

I'll take a pic after I have the DC settled down.

The hospital gave me a band thing after my c/s. It really did help. I think I tossed it though... If your birthing in a hospital you could always ask for one.
I've never heard of this.

Didn't have any "falling organ" feeling or trouble losing weight after DD1 was born, though. For the first time ever in my life, I had trouble maintaining my weight after giving birth. I only gained 27 pounds with her, and lost 22 within 3 days of giving birth.

*knocks on wood* hoping it'll be that easy this time around!
I just got my Belly Bandit in the mail today. Yay! If anything, I'm hoping it'll help my skin tighten back up. I'm much more concerned about having slackness in my skin than extra padding.
Jojo F. here's the pic. I guess she just had material that she cut, no sewing necessary. The other one I have was actually sewn at the sides, but I can't find it. I think the material was a mix between jersey and cotton.

Thanks! I'm guessing it's a stretchy jersey/cotton? Really small tube tops would probably work really well and be much cheaper.
