So my son is 2.9 years old, and almost a year ago he started showing interest in peeing in the potty. Starting about 5 months ago we started having lots of naked time and a few hours a day of underwear time. He can hold his pee for 2-3 hours, and always knows when he has to poop and pee. He has pooped in the potty here and there. Lately, he doesn't want to wear underwear, he would rather just be in a diaper, and when I have him naked and try to get him to use the potty he flips out. My instinct is to just put him back in diapers and try again in a month....but I also can't help but to feel a bit frustrated, because I feel like his body is ready. I also have a 14 month old in diapers, and wonder if he wants to still be little like her? What do you think? Most of his buddies are out of diapers, and I would "need" him to be out of diapers by sept. to start nursery school, which by then he would be 3.2....any ideas to help him by the full transition...is it normal to have a toddler "learning" about the potty for so long but yet not quite ready to make the actual jump?
Thanks!

My ds (4th child) is going to be 30 months old at the end of the month. He is doing the same as your dc - he knows when he's going to go, he goes to another room to hide to go poo, and when he pees, he stops and stands very still. Afterward, he comes to us and smacks his diaper to get a new one.

He wasn't interested in sitting on the potty so I found a seat that fits the big toilet seat, and that makes the hole small so it fits him and he can't fall into the big toilet while sitting on it. For a while, that was just great. All he wanted to do was sit on the big toilet, but he only used it a couple of times (and that was more of a "Mommy got the timing just right" type of thing).

Yesterday, he had a dry diaper when he woke up (as usual). I let him go naked, grabbed the little potty and set it in the LR so if he started to go I could plop him on it, etc. He literally did the pee pee dance (legs crossing, holding himself, etc.) and kept asking for a diaper. I refused and told him big boys like himself use the potty or the toilet. He would sit down for all of two seconds (not long enough to go) and then jump back down, play a few minutes, and start the whole thing over.

I took him outside (finally - warm weather!!!) and let him play naked on the sidewalk (we live in the country w/ no close neighbors so nobody could see him - I could run naked if I wanted to LOL). He got really upset b/c he wanted a diaper, and I didn't give him one. Finally he started to pee, and I sat him on the potty. Hopefully it clicked. He kept asking, "I pee???" Of course I did the big whooping "pee pee in the potty! YAY!" dance that all Moms do, etc., etc. He wore undies the rest of the day, and he only had one accident when I was on the phone and didn't get him to the potty on time when he asked for it (he said "I pee!" and the peed before I could say hang on).

Today we didn't make it in time - we got up, he had a dry diaper (as usual), but by the time we walked to the bathroom he had gone. Then later this morning, he went to the playroom to get some toys, and he had an accident.
So right now, he's having nakey time, and I'm hoping this is the week that I get him interested in going!!!

For the record - my girls potty learned b/n 18 - 24 months (completely) and my older son (now almost 15) potty learned in one week the week of his 2nd birthday. This one (#4) has thrown me for a loop on the potty learning!!!!!

So - all this to say that I don't have any advice for you, but I wanted to lyk that you're not alone b/c I'm in the same boat!!!
