So we are taking the plunge-dd is 2.5, she has been wanting to wear panties for a while, but I haven't been ready<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> So today she wanted to go buy panties and we did-yay for her. So I am thinking of starting next week. I have been reading all of the potty learning threads I can find and still have the following questions:<br><br>
Right now-she is in cloth diapers and peeing frequently on the toilet-still wet dipes, but anytime I suggest she try to go potty, she goes.<br><br>
She has not pooped yet on the toilet-she refuses at the time of pooping, but will talk about it later about how she wants to poop on the toilet. Should I not start this until she has pooped on the toilet? Or do I throw on the panties and see what happens?<br><br>
Do you start with just "day" learning first-and still put dipes on for naps and overnight? Or again-do you just jump in with both feet and see what happens? If you do start with "day" learning-when do you try to do sleep learning?-or just let it happen?<br><br>
Incentives? My thoughts are that I am against this-I really don't want to bribe her. Am I expecting too much thinking that this will work?

DS started staying dry for naps quite a while ago, maybe at about 18 months, so that's not really an issue. I still put diapers on him at night, though. After he started using the potty, he started staying dry at night, although I know a lot of parents aren't so lucky...it usually takes a bit longer for kids to learn to stay dry at night. He might wet his night diaper once a week, but I never know when it's going to be and I don't feel like stressing him out with that pressure right now.<br><br>
DS is just doing so well right now that I really don't want to pressure him too much and have everything backfire. Accidents really upset him, I can't imagine how upset he'd pee if he woke up in a wet bed. He's not ready to use the potty outside of the house either, so we use pull-ups when we go out. I say, just go at your DD's pace. If she uses the potty during the day, but not at night, just put her in a diaper. Or if she's not ready to poop in the potty, let her wear a diaper for that. It will all happen eventually anyways, there's no reason to rush it. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

We were totally potty learned back in Jan/Feb but then after I got pregnant and then had a miscarriage she totally went back to diapers, part my fault and part her I think just dealing with a lot. So... now for the past week + we have been doing panties again. We had gotten to the goign out in panties but not the naps and night night. Well this weekend she fell asleep on the couch with panties on and woke up dry, but most times she does not.<br>
I was a bed wetter for a long time and I really think some kids just can't help it. She has really wet diapers when she wakes up so I'm not even going to try until she starts to wake up dry on her own. Then we'll move to naps and fianlyl night time. I'm not pushing night time. until I know she is super ready.

We have been doing panties during the day and pullups at night/naptime. Twice though, DD fell asleep for her nap with her panties on. The first time she slept the whole two hours and woke up dry! The second time was today. She fell asleep while I was holding her and I tempted fate by holding her with her panties on. She did well for the first hour and then she got hot and stirred a little. Then she peed all over me. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"> We will be using pullups at night and during naps for a while.

DS actually tends to pee during naps but not nighttime -- strange, huh? So he wears underwear to bed but we still use a Pull-Up for naps. He does still wake up a little wet in the morning occasionally, but not often enough to use a Pull-Up every night.<br><br>
We used Pull-Ups for both nap and night in the beginning, though, and once we realized that it was usually dry in the morning, we started putting him in undies for bedtime.
