I wanted to put this in parenting to hopefully get some views of people who might have dealt with this but don't necessarily have toddlers anymore.

DD is 2.5 and was using the potty pretty reliably around 25 months. She broke her leg a couple of months later and has just recently gotten the cast off (it was only on for about 3.5 weeks). When she was in the cast we had to put her back in diapers since she couldn't really get up well to go to the potty in time.

Now she's refusing to use the potty at all. Her leg has healed great and she's running around on it like nothing ever happened, so it's not that she is still having trouble/pain with the leg at all. She just refuses to use it. I've tried letting her go around bare bottomed for a week (which is what we did the first time and it worked great) but she just screams when I mention the potty at all. I try to sit her on it, she screams, then goes and pees right next to it. :

I've just put her back in the diapers for right now because clearly she isn't ready again for some reason and we are both frustrated. How should I approach starting again with her? I just don't know what to do this time around since it seems like all of the stuff we did before isn't working this time. Should I just let it go until she seems ready again, or keep trying every few weeks?

Gah. She was supposed to start preschool in a month (they were going to take her because she was using potty and seemed ready... it's only a half-day three days a week program) but now it looks like we might have to put that off. She really wanted to go to school too, but when I mention that she has to use potty to go to school she just gets really upset and screams

Anyone BTDT with a toddler who was using the potty well and then stopped for whatever reason?

Just giving the thread a little bump.... she's in diapers right now (doesn't help that I sold my CD stash two months ago when I thought we were done with them~ ARGH!)

Right now I'm just leaning toward dropping the issue for a month or so.... it's obviously bothering her to use the potty and I can't force her to use it.

Maybe it's more my issue :

I would let it go. I think it's fairly normal for little ones to have potty regression, especially after something as disruptive as being in a cast for a few weeks. I would drop the issue and let her use the potty when she is ready, even if it means no school for right now -- she's still really young, and at her age, she doesn't really *need* to be in school for anything (assuming you don't need it for daycare purposes).

I am going to just drop it for now...

I was going to start back to work when she got settled in preschool (if it was working out for her anyway) but I'll put that on hold for a while too.

Like I said it's probably more my issue... I was happy to be going back to work, getting out of the house, etc. and the potty stuff has set that back, so I'll have to deal

Thanks everyone!
