I have been reading through some of the Potty Learning threads, and have some good ideas now, but would still like some advice on how to handle PL with my dd who turned 2 in April.

She is asking to use the potty chair several times a day now, even taking off her diaper first thing in the morning and going on her own. So I think she is ready to tackle this skill. I wasn't even going to go there yet, since I had such a horrible time with my ds, now 6 (I'm sure I made every bad mistake with him. )

Anyway, we use cds most of the time - prefolds with snappis and prowraps. It's annoying to have to undo all of that to get her on the potty when she wants to go. We use disposables at night and when traveling or at sitters and when we're just plain lazy . I was wondering if it would be best just to get some Gerber trainers and let her go around in those at home? We have one room that's carpeted, the rest are wood floors. It's warm enough finally that I don't have to have her all bundled up any more.

I'm just trying to figure out an economical way to do this, since she seems ready and willing and it is probably a good time for us. I hate the whole pull-up idea, but I do wish I could afford something more water resistant. I hope this all makes sense! I did order the potty free by 3 book from the library, but it hasn't come yet.

Thanks!
Summer is such a great time for PL. We kept ds naked most of the time last summer when he was just starting to learn. We had wood floors which were easy to clean up in case of accidents. Not having to deal with pulling the clothing off seemed to keep it simpler for him. He also wore prefolds/snappis and covers. and did get pretty good at taking them off on his own, but easier to be naked. We later got disposable pull ups for a couple of out of town trips and he started to regress and pee in them more. I think they see pull ups as something to pee in because they don't feel wet and then think they are for peeing. A friend of mine had better luck using the thick gerber underwear. It caught a lot of the pee, but he still felt wet. I never had much luck getting ds to wear the cloth trainers I got him.

Yeah, if you need to have her clothed and don't want pre-folds, then find some good trainer underware. I'm sure if you can't find any retail you can find some on-line.

You don't say how old your dd is, but regardless, she definitely sounds ready. I would just put her in training undies, expect accidents, and move on from there.

You have to decide, though, that you're moving out of the diaper phase and not going back. It could take a couple months to get there, but it'll be worth it, especially if you're doing cd.
