When ds was 12 months, he would take his diaper off when he had to go to the bathroom. We put him on the potty and lo and behold he knew what to do.

Ok, so two things happened: 1) my family made fun of me (grr!) saying "he's not potty trained, he has YOU trained", and 2) (more importantly) he learned to walk a month later and completely lost interest in stopping to go to the potty.

But what a glorious month it was! I can't get it out of my mind... I'm kicking myself for not keeping up with it despite those two things.

I'm thinking that he's smart enough and now it's more of an attachment to the diaper thing, as he is fine with sitting on the potty, but won't go pee pee in it.

So I'm trying two things: one week of waiting to change his diaper (less frequently) to see if the wetness will prompt a desire to use the potty, then one week of checking super often, changing right as he pees. Perhaps always being in a dry diaper will prompt potty use!

Anyone else try this? I'd love to hear about it.

I'm not dying that he use the potty as much as I know he *can*, kwim? If I have to change diapers for a while longer, not the end of the world.

Our experiment went bust, but in a good way! Somehow Jaxon got a bad welt (looks like diaper rash, but on his leg?) and we had to go diaper-free like you suggested... We've had accidents but the past two days have yielded three successfull pees and one poo!!!! Yahoooooooo! (DH is not liking the abuse to the new carpet, though!
