Help! My DS is going to be 3 in July and I want to get serious about potty training since he will be starting Pre-K in September.

He started showing interest a year ago but we just moved and we were going to be moving again within 6 months or so and things were crazy so I didn't want to start and then throw him off but didn't want to discourage him either.

I bought him a potty then and he did go on it a couple of times but he really enjoyed running around naked and peeing on the floor especially since he see's our 3 dogs going on ground outside. I tried not to get upset if he went on the floor but sometimes I got frustrated b/c it would go on for hours and he would just laugh and the dogs would try to eat it. Sorry if TMI! He is starting to go on his potty again occasionally but I'm not sure what the best way to train is.

I have a couple books and articles which some make me feel he is late and others he's on time. I don't see how pull ups are much different than diapers so I bought some undies but not sure how to go about this. For several months after we moved (the second and final time) he would tell us when he was peeing and pooping. Now he kind of goes in corner to poop and sometimes tells me he's peeing.

Anyway, sorry for rambling. I'm just looking for best way to start training him so any advice or tips would be appreciated.

As soon as I hit send on original post my DS came streaking thru the kitchen naked and when I went to get his diaper in other room there were little nuggets on the floor. I got out the potty and he did a little poop and pee. I thought the timing was very funny.

My sister and I have had a lot of success w/ Potty Training in Just One Day. It's a book from the 70s and some of the info about how potty training is handled is outdated (like, I guess parents used to be quite harsh) but over all it's a great great resource.

Thanks. I think that is one of the books my cousin gave me and she said the same thing about it that's why I never really looked at it. I was looking for a more updated approach but maybe I'll scim thru it.
