So dd is fully pottying. She just doesn't have accidents, and hates to wet herself. But we're going on a long plane ride across the country, and I'm really worried that she's going to have to go during take off or some other time when I can't get up and take her.

She picked out some special Pull Ups today (we've never used them before), and I'll put her in them for the trip. But what do I tell her? That it's like a diaper and if she has to go to go? She only wears a diaper at night and naps, and she often wakes herself up to pee. She's never gone in a diaper or pull up during the day. Heck, she's only had one accident in the 4 months since she's been potty trained.

I want her to be able to go in the pull up if she needs to, but I worry about setbacks in the pottying. Mostly, I want her to be comfortable and not sit with a full bladder!

I think she'll be fine. I did this exact thing when my son was 2 yr. 10 months. I just said, sometimes the seatbelt sign is on and we can't get up, so just in case, I want you to be able to pee. As it turned out, he didn't pee for the whole 4-hour flight. But as soon as we landed, we went to the bathroom and put underwear on. Totally fine. Don't stress about this one.

I think that's just absolutely the perfect way to phrase it. Thanks. I'm going to remember that if I ever have the same situation with my (EC graduate but still young enough to have accidents) own daughter.

I faced the same problem when DD1 was potty learning. I did put pullups on her for the flight, but she never actually peed in them--we went right before we got on the plane, and then she used the plane potty. She went through a phase where she was terrified of any "new" potties, but luckily she was excited about using the plane bathroom.

You may find that your child is really 'on' with pottying when you are flying. We EC, and my son is sorta lackadaisical at home, but when we have gone on trips, he has been dry all day. We just offer him lots of chances to potty - right before boarding, as soon as the seatbelt sign goes off, about every 45-60 minutes while in the air, and again as soon as we deplane. Plus, I think the dry air on the plane makes them a little more dehydrated, even if they are nursing/drinking water. If your girl is accident free normally, I would bet that pull-ups are going to be unnecessary, but do what is going to make the flight the least stressful for both of you.
