Hi all, my almost 4 yr. old and very vain and girly dd has the chicken pox, and is almost over it. (no new pox today, almost all scabbed). She has very sensitive, fair skin and is very sad over the way she looks right now. I was wondering what might be the best thing to start to apply to her skin in a few days, to speed and help healing of the pox?

I was thinking vitamin E oil, maybe with a drop or two of tea tree oil?

Please help me restore my beautiful girl to herself!

Thanks, but smells like kerosene and making a throat hurt sounds a bit harsh to use on a sensitive little preschooler. I dont mean to sound ungrateful, but at this point she doesn't want baths or poultices anymore. She's pretty muvh over the pox, it's just about skin healing.

What I had in mind is some kind of nice smelling lotion/oil that I can give her massages with, that would help healing and make her feel good.

I'd say using a combination of Vit. E. and St. Johnswort Oil massaged would be good. If you add a drop of lavender or even rose if you have it, that'll smell nice and be good for the skin.

I didn't realize she was already over it.

In any case, chances are that any marks that remain will fade eventually.

Can't tell you the exact chemical properties of St. John's Wort/Johnswort, but, it is great for healing burns and have found it to be good for preventing scars. So is castor oil, but you shouldn't take that internally unless you intend to and on a little one, stuff on the skin can end up inside them sometimes (if on their hands, for instance). Also, castor oil is really viscous and thick and hard to spread, so a thinner oil would be gentler to apply.

I've also found SJW oil to be good for sore muscles as a rub .. especially shortly before AF comes to visit. We used it on Chelse's pox scabs (and knee scabs, and elbow scabs et c et c) and I'm not sure if it really helped them heal faster, but she was fascinated by the "pretty colored stuff that made my itchies go away"
