I had ppd with my 1st and 2nd, I think I'm getting it again
I'm starting to see some of the signs, not wanting to go out, feeling like crying, feeling like a bad mother, checking on breathing if a baby has been sleeping for awhile, feeling like something might happen to them. I don't feel like this a lot and I'm not sure if it the start of ppd or if its just the stress of having premature twins, having a c/s and them having to stay in the nicu for awhile.
I'd like to think that its ppd starting up and these are just normal reactions to the stress I've gone through for a few weeks. On the other side though, one twin has been from 3 weeks and the other 2. My dh has been doing "night duty" with both babies for at least 1/2 the night and for the 2nd 1/2 I only get one baby so I've been getting a good amount of sleep. As far as anyone knows both babies are perfectly healthy, they're both gaining weight and everything look good. So I don't really have a reason to worry that something is going to happen to them.

My zoloft question. I took zoloft and klonpin after my daughter was born for ppd and it worked well. My dh and therapist both think it would be a good idea if I went on it again if I start showing signs of ppd. The social worker at the hospital thought I should go on it right away as a prevenative measure. Now I forget who told me or where I read it, but, something about not taking zoloft when breastfeeding until the baby was 3mths old, becuase of the brain developing.
Is that true? My babies were born at 34wks so I want to make extra sure that if I do take anything its safe. I waited until my dd was 3mths old to take the zoloft becuase of this (I think it was her ped that told me) My dh wants me to take it right away if I start showing signs becuase he says he "cannot go through that again" and its not fair to the kids.

Anyone have an advice?

Congratulations on the twins! Wow, you've got a lot going on.

I ended out with PPD after the birth of my second child. I have this feeling that the c-sec had a lot to do with it.

Anyway, {{hugs}}. The concern I've heard about an infant under three months is not the developing brain (that continues for a lot longer), it's the fact that the liver/kidneys aren't fully functional so the tiny bit of Zoloft in the baby can't be easily excreted.

I hope you've "just" got the baby blues and this will resolve on its own, but with a history and some signs already, unfortunately the PPD sounds like it's starting. I am not as hesitant as most on MDC to suggest starting Zoloft. Unless you think this will resolve soon, talk to your prescriber and get started. If you are becoming depressed you now have to weigh the potential risk of Zoloft with the risks of having a depressed mom.

Positive thoughts heading your way.

ah, I couldn't remember what it was exactly. I'm wondering if it would be more of a concern with preemies

Hmm. I've had several bf-ing friends who've gone on Zoloft as soon as their babies were born . . . but they were all full term babes.

I too have twins and feel like I probably SHOULD have been put on it while still in the hospital. I was a total wreck (nearly psychotic) by about 4 months, which is when I started it.

Someone here should be more knowledgable than I am about this, but like one of the pp's I would not be that hesitant to start if you feel you need it.

Good luck to you

My dd was preemie at 36 weeks and I took Zoloft until she was 5 months old. I talked to several doctors and did a ton of research, and couldn't see that there was a risk to her more serious than myself. I think it's recommended though that the dosage not be more than 150 mg.

My dd has had no problems related to the Zoloft.

I hope this helps

With both mine I took zoloft from birth there was no other med that was safe enough. They had no problems. For me any potential risks taking it were outweighed by the risk of not taking it.

My little guy will be 5 months this friday and I finally decided to go on Zoloft. My ppd symptoms are very mild but the fact hat they still lingered I decided to just do it, and now I wish that I'd just bit the bullet and gone on it from the get go.

Anyhow everything that I've read says that 50mg of zoloft or less doesn't show up in milk or in the baby's blood, so I started off at 25mg and I'll be going up and staying at 50mg unless I feel like I need more.

Would this be an option for you? Hopefully if you catch it soon enough you can stay at 50mg and not have to take more.
