I was wondering if anyone else had experienced pre-eclampsia before.

I developed it with my little boy, but fortunately didn't get it until around 37 week. But it was pretty frightening and blew my ideal birth situation completely out of the water. I got a call from my doctor's office who had just finished processing my 24 hour protein test and they told me not even to go home and get my bag but to come directly to the hospital to be induced. Needless to say it was very, very high. So after a cocktail of drugs and about 12 hours, I had a beautiful baby boy.

Despite the good outcome, obviously I'd like to avoid it if at all possible this time. I am already on the Brewer's diet and have been since I found out I was pregnant, but I was wondering if any of you other mamas had similar experiences in the past and could offer up any suggestions.

Thanks!!!

Ispelle, I hope you can TOTALLY avoid Pre-E this time around. How scary!

I don't have experience with it, but there's this huge monster thread in the Pregnancy Resources board that has massive information about signs & prevention. http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=221654

Wishing you 40 week of healthy & happiness while pregnant!

i had it last time too. i started with PIH (preg. induced hypertension) at around 30 weeks and thats when the fluid hit, from 30 to 36 wks and 6 days i gained 38 pounds (95% fluid) it was scary-ugly. i also had an emergency induction, they kept wanting to do a section and i kept resisting, finally after 1 1/2 hrs of pushing i was able to get DS out. i am also scared for a repeat!

I've heard the Brewer Diet for elminiating complications in pregnancy can virtually eliminate most cases of pre-e I know a lot of MW's that basically "require" you to be on this diet, because it's easier to prevent a problem than to treat it

I had pre-e with my first, and started getting with my second. It was not nearly as bad with the 2nd tho. Induction both times at around 37.5 weeks. With 3rd AND 4th I didn't get it again. So your chances greatly DEcrease for getting it again, but there is still a chance. I do know a lady that had it with both and it was VERY severe. She's not planning more children b/c of it. GL

I'm not very familiar with p/e except I know you should eat lots and lots of protein and don't limit salt. I know the Brewer Diet is largely animal products, but if you want you can get tons of protein without the saturated fat and cholesterol from vegetarian sources too.
I hope you avoid all the complications this time!!

Spark: Thanks for the link and the good wishes. I'll go check it out.

Dandecobb: Oh what a tough labor! Fortunately my actual labor was really easy. Although I did almost end up with a c-section too because my blood pressure dropped to virtually nothing. I didn't put on fluid quite that fast. I'll bet your poor skin felt just awful! The really awful part for me about the fluids was that like everything I drank during the day would just sit there until I went to sleep and then I'd have to get up 15 times at night to go to the bathroom! Oh, and the itchy, itchy legs from the stretching skin! Okay pretty much everything about it sucked. I sure hope you don't get it this time either!

Sunnymw: I guess I started it around 25 weeks last time. I sure hope this time starting it from the beginning does the trick. I definitely recommend it because it did keep it at bay for quite some time. Although, its tough to do right now with the m/s.

Tenk: Thanks! It's good to know it doesn't always come back.

Veganf: I have been eating a lot of nuts and things for my protein. I have to admit I truly love the eggs though, so I'm going to stick with them. hehe
