okay, in horses you can predict foaling within 12 hours by measuring the amount of calcium and magnesium in their colostrum. with dogs, you can predict their birth withing 2 hours by monitoring their basal body temp. dont you think there is probably something like that with humans? i wouldnt be suprised if our BBT dropped 1/2 degree the day before labor begins . im gonna chart to find out! what do you all think?

Some people on the Ovusoft website (which started out primarily as a site about BBT charting for fertility awareness) tried this... not sure if it was ever figured out if this was accurate! It's hard to get a clear temp record when you're up and down all night peeing.

Oooh I think I'm gonna try that too! I charted for months trying to get preggo, so I am pretty familiar with it. I usually get up to pee the last time at around 3 and then sleep again until 6 so hopefully I can get a good 3 hrs of sleep to see if I see a temp change. I'm really curious because my mom raises dogs and has always done that to see if they are going into labor soon.

Share your results! That'd be really cool. Hmm, don't suppose anyone has chemistry set that'd measure the nutrients in their colostrum?

Yeah...I don't think this is gonna work for me! I've been getting up to pee practically every hour the last couple nights.

It worked for me! With my last pg, I had been temping to avoid pg, then to concieve her, so I had my trusty bbt thermometer. I started temping 2 weeks before my edd, to get a "baseline" and I had a noticible DROP the day I lost my mucus plug, and I was in a good labor pattern by 11pm that night, water broke at 2am...etc.

Oh, and I was NOT consistantly getting 3 hours before temping time, but found I had a good baseline and readable drop before labor anyway, and fully plan to pull out the bbt again this time - especially to help me decide if I want dh to leave me and go to work, or if I want him to hang around.

I found the discussion on the ovusoft board about using BBT to predict labor...

Some people had a noticeable drop, some had a drop, thne it went back up, and didn't drop again until AFTER the baby was born... It doesn't work for everyone apparently. LOL!
