Has anyone else been on it? I'm on it now for a lung condition, and it's not helping. I'm wondering if anyone else has been through this, and if there are any alternatives I can be looking into. Thanks!

I've taken it quite a few times for asthma, it makes me sick sick sick though. Very nauseuos, horrible horrible leg crams and exhausted. This is strange cause it makes most people starving. It does usually work for me though if I'm having a bad time that I can't seem to get out of myself. My grandpa took it for some symptoms of chemo, my cousin took it for a severely swollen broken elbow, and my DH took it for a really bad bout of tonsilitis, so it's definitely used for a lot more than just lung things.

I've never been on it, but it is a very common steroid that is used to treat lots of conditions but mainly to reduce inflammation and immune response (in the case of auto-immune disorders). Some things to remember:

~It depresses your natural immune response, so you are more susceptible to infection

~If you decide to go off it, you need to wean down so your natural steroid production will pick up the balance

As for alternatives, it depends on what your condition is and what the steroid is being used for. It can be a trial and error process, but there are probably other things you can try. If steroids aren't working for you, you should consider either going off them or increasing the dosage. Don't do either without consulting your doc though, so she/he can aid you in adjusting the dosage. Good luck .

My father took prednisone quite often. He had a lot of respiratory problems. It would correct the problem, but the side effects were terrible. It would make him really shaky, not weak, but unsteady, fidgety. It also thins the bones, and it made my mother's hair fall out. Be careful to follow the dosing instructions exactly if you must take it.

Agree with above that the side effects are really bad. Here's a quick read on the uses and side effects:

http://www.naturalessentials.com/pre...de_effects.htm
