Okay, let me see if I can explain this...

We usually use the newspaper fold, but there's so much excess at the top (his waist), that it's all bunchy and hard to snappi over. I always thought that it was an absorbancy thing -- the more material, the better.

But after reading some of these prefold threads and how you can fold it down in the back to take up excess, I'm wondering. Does anyone fold all the excess in the back and just have the top edge showing in front? Does it work better? I usually use a doubler, anyway.

I used to fold it all down in the back but ds is exclusively bf and I would get poopy leaks out the back that way.

I fold it down in the front now and no more leaks but it is bulky in front. I am just waiting for him to grow into them better.

I say just trim those suckers....if you could turn them into squares you may be happier all around (you're using a doubler anyway).

So if I cut them, do they have to be hemmed? I own a sewing machine, but boy am I sewing challenged!

So far we are just in infant PFs and I fold down in the back to help redistribute the bulk. When we move up to the next size I think I will trim them.
