What am I doing wrong? Unless the poop is a VERY small amount it ends up on my covers every time.

I have tried: newspaper fold, angel wing fold, jelly roll fold, bikini fold, pins, snappis, pulling & adjusting to try to get it as tight as possible around the leg, but always the same thing.

I keep reading how covers can be used for days at a time unless soiled but mine are spending all their time in the wash. Plus it means I am often out of clean covers.

Is it just because bf poop is so runny?

Jellyroll with pins usually solves that problem. Odd. Are you folding down a tab in the back so it can't shoot up? Or is it leaking out the sides?

Perhaps you need to move up a size with the pfs?

I am also having this problem. I am getting better and better at folding and pinning, and I keep experimenting, but I still get an explosion that gets on the cover at least once a day.

I have a hard time with the jelly roll fold - I think maybe because of this it's not effective for me. DD is so squirmy that it's hard to keep both sides rolled when I pull the diaper up between her legs. Also, I can never ever get it tight enough on the leg. I pin and pull and repin and pull some more and it's still loose on one leg.

I will say that I had a lot FEWER leaky explosions when I started folding down either the front or the back to make the diaper shorter. Before I learned to do that I was dealing with 3 or 4 poopy covers a day. Now it's a lot better, but for her one daily mammoth explosion, I just can't contain it, and I never know when it's going to be

I love my prefolds so I am willing to keep trying, but I also love my wool covers and I hate that I have to wash them so often.

Its hard to figure out. All I can say is that it won't last long before he poops less often.

The bikini twist did hold the bf poop for my kids though. I had to make sure that the twist was right under my boy's testicles, and that his penis pointed directly into the twist... this was to catch all the pee.

For the bum, I would put the diaper on and then sort of tuck in the sides, so they formed a good bubble for the poop... and the prefold was fairly tight around his legs.

I hope this helps. Its worth a shot.

It is the leg that is the problem - never up the top.

I'll give that a try vobetz.

Honestly, I never really got super good at containing the early bm poops in prefolds. I had the cover issue too.

I ended up using a lot of fitteds and the other dipes first in that stage, then pfs after I ran out of those, then it was wash time for those and the covers.

Now that her poo has changed though and she only poos once every 3-4 days, the prefolds are awesome .

I get leg leaks too, plus I have a heavy wetter. I like doublers most of the day, but I change him as soon as he starts showing poop signs. When I'm expecting poop, I put the diaper on with super tight legs, the top is tight too but there's kind of a pouch in the butt where it's really loose. A Snappi won't hold it this way so I use pins for that.

I don't always want to change him first, and sometimes I don't catch it, so I usually dirty a cover a day (as he gets older it seems to be less, I think I go about 2 days between now, except for those unlucky days where he messes two).

Yeah....your kid's poo is normal.

I think it's hard to avoid at this stage! I'm just hoping to get plenty of covers early on this time (due Aug) to make up for it!!

I don't have any new tricks for ya... but like someone else said, it won't last forever! And just think, better the cover than the clothes. I remember days early on with my son, before I had discovered cloth, that I had to change poopy clothes like 3-4 times per day. Ugh.

At least the cover you can wash by hand and hang to dry if needed...

Thanks - I'm glad it's not just me!

footprintsbaby - oh my - when I was home for a week we used disposables - I've NEVER gone through sooo many outfits a day. It leaked out completely every. single. time!

This worked for us until DD outgrew the infant size (til about 7mo): the "poop pouch". I got the idea here HowTos & FAQs of Cloth-how to fold prefold

I took it one step further and just laid the prefold flat, on top of the cover (centered, lined up with back edge of diaper cover). Slide diaper and cover under baby and into general position. Pull up front of diaper thru legs and then the cover, up and onto baby's front and fasten the cover. There will be edges of the diaper poking out all over. Proceed to tuck all edges in until they are inside the cover. Presto! I still had occasional diaper blows that got the cover, but far less frequent (like maybe every 2-3 days instead of everyday). When you get the hang of it, you can grab a dipe, line it up w/ the back of the cover in midair and slap that puppy under and onto baby in no time flat.

It was easy to tell when DD outgrew the infant size because this method stopped working and we were getting oopsy poopsy covers again . Now we use premium size prefolds w/ a snappi and get poop on a cover maybe 1 or 2 times a week.

That's why you have more covers for a small baby! It will pass!

When pulling the wings of the prefold around, pull the leg opposite the wing down while pulling the wing tight. That helps.

A bikini twist has always worked for me, but only when the twist is in the right spot.

Also, I found that ub Indian prefolds absorbed bf poo faster than any other sort.
