I have just under 7 lb babes who are very skinny. should I go with preemie prefolds or go for the infant 4X6X4 prefolds?

I'd go with some preemie sized. http://www.babiesinthesun.com/preemie-diapers.html has $10 for a dozen preemie sized AND you can get them unbleached. I usually have 7lbers and I will probably end up with 1.5-2 dozen preemie (they grow out of them quickly and they aren't very absorbant after a certain point in life) and then 2 dozen Infant PFs.

Best wishes & happy gestating!

preemie pfs lasted my DS (snappi'd rather than trifolded and lay in) till he was almost 9 pounds, but even though I only used them for diapers for a couple of weeks, I used them for doublers and wipes much longer (like 19 months, so far

Yup, this is what I was going to say as well. They are so cheap, yet so handy to have those first couple of weeks. I'd say get both preemie and infant size.

I agree with the others I would get a few of both. Preemie can always be used for doublers.
I would definitely get some preemie prefolds. Especially since they are so cheap and can be used for other purposes after they are no longer needed as diapers. I had a 7 lb. 2 oz. baby and preemie prefolds were the only thing that would fit her. She was very petite at birth and most of my newborn diapers were too big for her non-existant butt.

good question. my son was less than 7 lbs at birth (but we didn't cd) and i've got infant pfs and a few newborn diapers but i wondered about how big they would be. off to get some preemie prefolds.
Premies for sure! DS is six weeks and about 12 pounds now. I can still pin a premie prefold on him, but they aren't absorbant enough!
ITA with the pp. I wish I'd had preemies when DS was born, and he weighed in at over 8 lbs! We couldn't CD for the first week because the infants were too big.
: Next time around I'm definately getting some preemies too.

Definitely the preemie. My dd actually WAS a preemie so we got about 2months worth of use out of our preemie prefolds before we needed to size up for absorbency. I'd say around 9-10lbs they start growing out of them. She was still overwhelmed by them in the beginning though. She was 5lbs 3oz at birth and wore preemie prefolds at about 4 1/2lbs. Teeny! They are defintely worth it for even 6 and 7 lbers though. In my opinion, it's worth it for a good fit in the first few weeks when everything is so difficult. You don't need huge diapers that leak when you are recovering from childbirth and nursing constantly and constantly rocking and holding a teeny one. You don't need another hassle from diapers that overwhelm your teeny one. Get the preemie prefolds!

i don't know. i had infants and they worked fine with a seven pounder. don't know if the preemie would have worked better though...
