i've been cding for 4.5 years and have mostly used cpfs with different covers, tried a couple aio's, and have a dozen ME aios for the bigger size. i got rid of my whole nb/sm stash after ds and now we're expecting again (YIPPEE!!) so I'm starting to think about little teeny dipes again. what do you prefer and why for the smallest sizes? i'm cheap and don't want to spend a lot of money

I would just use PF's if $$ is an issue.... or make fitteds if you sew... you can also make your own PF's out of clothes around the house and flannel sheets.

I used pf's and fitteds with my DD.

For covers/wraps, I used bww, pw and wool.

hth...

I can't say I love pf's, but they work well and the are good on the wallet. I'm cheap too, and I went ahead and purchased kissaluvs 0. They are not in them very long, but those pumping legs. They saved my life and I hope to sell them and if I get half my money, I feel it would be worth it. Since they are not in them long at all, I feel they are in great shape to sell. I loved the convenience of the kissaluvs though.

congrats on your pregnancy!

i'm subbing because i'm wondering about this too. i cd ds most of the time, started when he was around 4 months. we use pockets (fb until his chubbo little thighs couldn't take it, then hh). i love the idea of kissaluvs but i think i'd go with size 1. ds was almost 9 lbs and i don't think this one will be little...

Prefolds are my favorite for a nb, and those will be the bulk of the stash for my baby on the way. I am, however, going to add a dozen or so fitteds to the mix for a little variety. As much as I love prefolds, I like baby's very first diaper to be a soft, squishy fitted. I'm planning on getting some nb Muttaqins and maybe another brand or two of some fitteds. I like the looks of Loveybums fitteds(the organic ones) and also the Little Beetle One(but it's more pricey). Kissaluvs are cheap and easy to get and super easy to sell if you end up not liking them or not being able to use them very long. It seems people are always on the hunt for Kissaluvs.. especially the 0s.

I have a mix of both (and getting more fitteds all the time because I'm scared of those PFs
). But if you're a prefold pro
I'm sure that would work well for you until the babe gets a bit bigger, and definately cheaper!

I really prefer fitteds, but that may just be me.
I had problems prefolds at that stage and they were always my "bottom of the stack" diapers, but of course, they did work. You can usually find great nb diapers used, especially since they often don't see too much use. Congratulations!

I don't personally like prefolds other than to use for extra absorbancy in a fitted or pocket dipe....but I just couldn't get the hang of using them....I personally think that Kissaluvs size 0 are the smallest fitted you can find...your baby might not be in them that long depending on size at birth but they are really teeny (my little guy is 5 months old and 13lbs...so he's teeny still but he's just now grown out of a size 0 a couple weeks ago)

PFs.

Why spend loads of cash on a stash you'll be using for a month or two, if that? I'd save the money for sizes small and medium, which you'll get much more wear out of.

I'd maybe buy one or two fitteds for outings and photos. Maybe.

I like a whole stash of nb-small in a fitted style because I love wool shorts and pants and I don't like covers much unless there is a outfit that requiers a cover. But I like a NB in just a fitted and snuggled up close to me!

I prefer fitteds. I just didn't like the way the PFs fit my DD, but I loved my fitteds with my last NB.

I use PFs b/c I'm cheap. However, fitteds are nice b/c they keep the nb bf poos from spilling out everywhere. I will be buying for this up coming baby a hand few of fitteds for outings. I think a good fitted is better than even the best paper diaper. I used paper with my first two on and off and the worse nb bf poo messes were in paper, up the back, sitting in a carseat by far the worst, but just slinging my 2nd had it up his back...

The jelly roll fold is great for poo containment around the legs, but I've only found that my covers keep all the poo in. I have 2 wool in small and they were constantly being pooed on... And not all covers are created equal, they need elastic at the top and the legs to contain those explosive bf poos!!!

I'm totally pro prefold. Fitteds can be so expensive and although a few newborns are just born to be skinny minis, many grow so fast that it ends up being a constant sell, buy, sell, buy. The good thing about prefolds is that once they outgrow the infant (or preemie) size, you can use them for inserts, trifolded inside of bigger prefold. In fact, I'm waiting on some infant prefolds now for my night time routine. I would wait until they get to be about medium sized for fitteds. The growth slows down (relatively speaking) and then you'll be able to use them for awhile. And too, with fitteds, you can resell them once you're done with them for almost all of your money back, as long as you take care of them. With prefolds, you can tie dye them (which also covers stains) and actually make a profit on them! Congrats on your pregnancy and welcome to the addictive world of cloth!
