With my fourth baby, I started out in prefolds, and expanded to fitteds etc etc....you know how it goes.<br>
But I'm back to loving my prefolds.<br>
And this has me thinking.<br>
Every day I read comments on here like "I thought cloth diapering meant prefolds and pins.....now I see how great cloth diapering can be...." that kind of thing.<br>
Now, when you go into public or even around family, and you have a child in cloth diapers, most people have the added advantage of explaining how far cloth diapering has come, and showing off their new fluff.<br>
That leaves prefold lovers at a loss.<br>
I love a baby in prefolds and pins.<br>
So earthy and old fashioned.<br>
What do you think? Am I freaking the general public out lol?

First of all, I'm thinking you meant when people see dS in a prefold. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"> Unless you meant old pictures of your dH in a prefold. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"><br><br>
And yes, I'm feeling the prefold love around here. We did AIO's almost exclusively all winter and I was tired of the wicking and leaking (even though they were absolutely adorable and fit ds well; he just pees way too hard for them to hold up). And, folding diaper laudry is so much easier when there aren't various soakers to snap in to the correct shells. We kept a few AIO's and still use pockets at night, and I still have my stash of mostly me made fitteds. But, the first thing I always reach for now are my prefolds. I want more even though I have more than enough for at least 2 days of laundry (not to mention the aforementioned fitteds, AIO's, and the forgotten flats).

I love the prefolds too. They are simple and work just fine as diapers and burp cloths. I <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/heartbeat.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="heartbeat"> multifunction baby stuff. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>
I have not gotten up the courage to use pins yet. We're snappi people all the way. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

I don't think you're freaking people out.<br><br>
I think that fitteds, pockets and AIOs have been great for CDs--certainly I wouldn't have considered it if it were prefolds or nothing. Having easy-to-do nappies makes it much less daunting and the prospective CD'er can say to others--"see, it's hardly more work than disposables". It also means it's possible to use cloth nappies in nursery, since many places will balk at learning to fold and pin (or even use Nippas). But I don't think that most non-prefold/flat users think that prefold users are wrong, or anything like that--just that they have more time and patience <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>
Prefolds aren't for me because I could never get DH to do them! But I know they work really well for many people and that's great for them.

I like to take dd out in prefolds, people (especially old ladies) comment about how easy I make it look <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

I used prefolds briefly with our twins. I never tried anything else and I liked them. Dh not so much. He had a hard time with a snappi or pin, so I showed him how to lay it in the cover and he had leaks. We started with snappi's because I was terrified of pins. I had some trouble with them though and preferred pins.<br><br>
I'm toying with the idea of switching to cloth again with the new baby (he's 2 weeks) and if we do, will only use prefolds. I'm actually off to start a thread about washing them. I'm scared because now we have a front loader and the Green Mountain site says those really don't work well with cd'ing. I started a thread about it here a couple months ago and know someone said it does work though.

People are impressed by Snappis and wrap-style diaper covers, also by how thick and soft and absorbent real DSQs are.

I wonder... does whoever wrote that know that almost everyone in Europe uses a front-loader and we don't all use disposables?! Gah. My FL gets wash cleaner than my parents' American machines ever did. You just have to know how to use them.

My (American) front loader does so much better a job with diapers than my top loader ever did. Plus, it takes up less water and energy. I am so happy I finally switched over (it was cd's that kept me hesitant for so long on buying a FL).

All I even own are prefolds!!! I don't have the money for all of the other fancy things. I love taking dd out in prefolds as well b/c it shows people that it really isn't that hard to cd! People have such a skewed image of it and even if it's not all fancy and modern at least my snappi is! People, especially older people who had no choice but to cd, are so intrigued by the snappi!! It's funny actually. Also, if people ask me about my diapers I do go into detail telling them about all of the new things out there and encourage other mothers to do some research. As a pp said, the covers can be just as intriguing too. Especially if you have some really cute wool longies/shorties or something.

My mom used cloth with me and hated it, but she was very impressed with the snappi. We started with prefolds and have recently switched to flats and pins which I love! So I guess I am even less modern. No plastic pants though, we have plenty of proraps and bummis that are working great. I do mention to those who ask that there are a million options and there is something for every taste.

I am in <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/luxlove.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="throb"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/heartbeat.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="heartbeat"> with prefolds! I think it's the simplicity of it all. Our world is so full of color and stimuli.....that prefolds just remind me of a simpler time <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> (even though i've never actually lived in a simpler time <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> )

That was really bad lol.<br>
I'm glad to hear that you guys like prefolds so much too.<br>
I do love my fitteds, but even taking them in the car is so stinkin hard since they are bulkier.<br>
And I just love the look of the prefolds.
