Hi. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and my son is 21 months old. It's been pretty incomfortable nursing him lately as he continually compresses my nipple, asks to switch sides all the time, has been digging in my belly button or rubbing my chest (and I can't stand that!), and nursing is taking a lot longer than it used to. I'm used to an oversupply but my supply really dropped early on and I had to stop pumping for a friend then.

My son still seems to be getting milk b/c I ask him about it and he says yes, but it seems like he's not. And I can no longer express any myself (never was any good at hand expressing, but I could always count on squeezing a little out once he started to nurse).

I'm just wondering if I can expect a supply increase before birth? I'm feeling like this might alleviate some of the bothersome nursing stuff going on...more milk, shorter nursings, possibly less nipple compression, etc.

What do you think?

Hi mama-
My milk dried up when I was about 4 months pregnant with my dd; at that point, my DS was almost 2 years old. He too told me he was getting milk, but I knew that I wasn't producing anything. Unlike some others, my milk didn't come in until after my DD was born- he didn't get any colustrum, etc...before her birth. But when the milk did come in, he was *in heaven*. There were definitely some challenges with painful nipples during pregnancy, etc...but it was so worth it to tandem nurse. We never experienced a touch of jealousy when his sister was born. Tandem nursing has been relatively easy for us- he only asks to nurse now once/week or so and each time I wonder if it's the last for us. He seems to be losing a little interest, although he is very quick to point out when his sister needs to nurse. It's cute. Best of luck to you!
