Does anyone else get the brown skin discoloration on your face? I had it with each pregnancy and the last one, the brown never really went away, it got worse right around my upper lip, almost looks like brown lip liner

So I started using this "fade cream" I got at the grocery store. It made me break out and I stopped using it and it got pretty dark again.

Now that I'm pregnant again, I noticed it getting really dark and I started the cream again. This time it's not making me break out, thankfully, and it kind of looks better.

Anyway, I never wear makeup but I actually got some cover up and foundation just to see if it looked better and it did nothing to cover it, my face looks strange with makeup on anyway but sometimes I feel desperate because it looks so weird.

Is there any successful treatment for this? I'm worried that it's just going to keep getting darker!

Thanks,

Deb

I can sympathize, as I got some pretty dark spots when pg with DD, although in time mine mostly faded. This pg I am making sure to war sunblock on my face whenever I'll be in the sun at all, and I try to wear a hat too. I did just hear that even visible light can cause it too, so I might start wearing sunblock ALL the time.

Wish I had better advice for you. I'm not sure about any treatments for it, I thought it usually faded on its own.

I get it too. The first time I got it was not because of pregnancy, but because I was silly enough to try hormone birth control again, many years ago. It took several years to fade and fade creams didn't work for me at all.

Now I have it again. There is a direct correlation for me between sunshine and the melasma. Mine started as soon as I spent an afternoon in direct sunlight this time around, same when I was on BC. Sunscreen doesn't seem to be enough, so I wear sunscreen and a hat. I'd stay covered up as much as you can and be patient and wait for it to fade. That's the only advice I have - bummer, isn't it?
