Hello,
My SIL has pregnancy related hives. She had it the whole last tri and she was reassured it would go away as soon as the baby came. The baby came, and a week later it's just as bad... the hives.
They told her she was allergic to her pregnancy hormones. This is her 3rd baby, first with hives. I understand each preg is different and i've had weird stuff happen with one preg and had it clear up right away. But, now they are telling her she's one of a small group of women whos hives will not clear up after pregnancy. It will continue as long as she nurses.
She's never nursed a baby past 5 mos and i know she was hoping to do it this time, but she's suffering.
Any have a experience with this? Any one know more than the OB on this topic? Any way to take away the discomfort?
thanks for your time!

DANDELION ROOT and FLAX SEED OIL

I've read this recipe for healing for PUPPPs, which is what it sounds like she has:

1 tbsp flax seed oil, 3x a day

2 droppers of dandelion root tincture per day

1 cup of dandelion root tea just before bed

It is a miserable miserable experience -- so along with this idea above, please give your SIL lots of love!

I developed PUPPs about 5 days before my son was born. It is a terrible, terrible itch, and I feel for your SIL.

The midwives and doctors at the hospital told me that the hives would go away by a few weeks post-partum. They did not link it to nursing at all, and I did a lot of breastfeeding over this period to get nursing established.

Over the next few weeks, the hives got better and worse almost hourly. I had them mostly on my upper thighs and my stomach (nestled in my stretch marks) and anywhere I had skin-on-skin contact (for example, if I sat too long with my feet crossed, I'd get an outbreak on my ankles and in my tush).

They started going away gradually, and by about 4 weeks post partum they were gone. I had red marks on my thighs for a couple of months but they are all gone now.

If you do a search on PUPPs in this forum you might find some other remedies, such as nettles tea. I did resort to topical anti-itch cream some nights, to get some sleep and to keep myself from scratching my skin off.

Happy anti-itch thoughts to your SIL....

thanks Mama's for sharing your recipes and experience! I will pass both your messages on to my SIL and tell her to hang in there. I will make her a care package with the dandelion root and flax seed oil.
Pupps, that's what it is. I wasn't sure if i had heard her say it right.
thanks
