I would like to hear if you had an AF before you got pregnant, etc.

My dd is 28mo and I still have no period. She nurses 4-6x a day. Co-sleeps and nighttime nurses.

I noticed that there are moms posting who are nursing and pregnant, so I am sure there are more of you out there!

Thanks!

DD1 is 26mo and DD2 is 11 days old...I nursed while TTC and then during pregnancy.

My cycles returned when DD1 was about 9mo old. But they were pretty erratic. Cycle length would vary and some months I'd "skip" a cycle, or even have two! It was crazy.

We were open to a new babe when my cycles returned, we started TTC when DD1 turned 1yo. It took 6 months of active TTC (closer to 9mo total, including one early m/c) before this pregnancy happened.

Despite the m/c and some unexplained bleeding in early pregnancy my care provider was always fine with my nursing during the pregnancy, and now my two girls enjoy nursing together...my toddler rubs my newborn's head and pats her arm and we so far it's going well!

Check out some of the threads in the TTC forum...there are threads with hundreds of nursing mamas TTC, and lots of information on AF/nursing/TTC.

Good luck!

I had one cycle when DS was four months old and got pregnant when he was five months old. I bled a fair bit in the beginning -- what the u/s tech said was about 2 days after conception, which I don't think is possible -- but that cleared up after a couple of weeks and no complications so far.

I got AF at 8 wks pp!!!?!?!?! We were full-time around the clock bfing, but still I got normal af with obvious ovulation-I was charting in my unbelief!! I got pg when dd was 11 months old and still nursing about 4-6 times a day.

The bad part was that when af returned so early after dd, it significantly diminished my milk supply. I've been on herbs, tinctures, teas and a very high fat/caloric intake but since my first af I could only maintain and never increase my supply even with professional help. DD still bf each morning, but now I'm pg again and my supply is practically gone. I had hoped to tandem but am not sure how much interest dd will have since there's no milk. Sometimes she gets so frustrated. It's sad for me but I try to be greatful for the 14mo (so far) that we did bf.

AF returned for me when dd was 6 months old, and I was nursing her on-demand, all day and all night long. AF was pretty regular when it started, but any irregularity was gone by the time dd was 12 months.

We waited to conceive again until this spring, when dd was 20 months old. And at 20 months dd was still nursing like a newborn! But now I'm in my 4th month of pregnancy, and dd is 23 months old, and has started to wean b/c my milk supply is almost non-existent. She'll nurse before naptime and before bedtime, but has given up her daytime and nighttime nursing sessions. It is sad to realize that nursing dd will be over soon, but it's also somewhat a relief since it is really painful to be nursing while pregnant. Ouch!

I didn't get AF back until 18 mon. 1 light, 1 heavy then pregnant
My DD is 21 month now and is starting to wean as well. She nurses at naptime and bedtime but that is just about it. I think my milk is starting to dry up. She still nursed quite a bit when AF returned so I was kinda surprised it came back this soon. I agree with Beppie as far as the pain. Sometimes it is so intense I have to stop her, but I think she is being lazy and using her teeth
So I will not miss it too much when and if she does wean. My nips need time to recooperate before the next baby

My son is 26 months and I still haven't gotten my period. I have talked to alot of moms that just end up getting preg without ever having a period. Even though I know I am not preg right now - I am ttc despite not having a period. I'll just let mother nature decide!

I had one cycle, when my son was around 11 months old, and concieved shortly after his first birthday. He was still nursing all day and night. Now my son is 28 months and my daughter is almost 7 months, and no signs of menstruation any time soon.

It's possible of course to get pregnant without return of menstruation, but it's not very common. Two-thirds of women have an anovulatory (no egg released) period for their first postpartum period, in fact.

I had six or 8 cycles between return of AF & conception of my second daughter, but only one the second time around.

I got AF at 7 weeks pp even though I was nursing my daughter on-demand around the clock. I got pregnant soon after my daughter turned 11 months while nursing and pumping about 4-6 times a day. I continued to nurse morning and evenings until she turned 14 months, but it got to be too painful and I don't think I was producing much milk at that point anyway.

Ds2 is 20 months old. I had two cycles and then got pregnant. It's actually funny, because we'd decided to be all laid-back about trying to conceive, and I expected it to take awhile since ds2 still nurses so often. I got pregnant the first month we tried!

I had one PP AF when DD was almost one year old, a month and a half after I returned to work. Although I was pumping at work, the decrease in daytime nursing probably contributed to AF's return. However, my cycle was very wonky, as I got pregnant around 7 weeks after this, despite always having been very regular before.

ds was 12 months old and I got 1 very light cycle. I had a normal cycle the next month, and then conceived (ectopic). I had 2 strange cycles after the ectopic, then began charting TTC. I conceived on my 2nd month of trying, and my dd is now 6 months old and no AF in sight...

ETA: I continued to bf my ds till 3 months before dd was born. He was 23.5 months when he weaned. DD is obviously still bf-ing now (on demand, MANY times a day/night). lol
