we're moving.
the kiddos are barely 2 and barely 3.
they've moved a lot in their lives, but never before have our housing arrangements been tolerable!
now, they're going to be leaving 'behind (going half a mile away from)' a four year old bestest buddy, a tire swing, giant yard, and playset.
just searching for ideas about how to make the move to the new home a pleasant one.
thanks!

We moved a month before my 2-year-olds birthday. The hardest thing for both of us was leaving behind quite a few playmates/neighbors. He didn't seem to care too much about the house itself - after all, all his stuff came with us and he was excited about his new room. I'd say that it was very important for us to find new playmates as quickly as possible. He had a few nights of trouble sleeping, which I think is normal for being in a new environment. We moved almost 5 months ago and he still misses having lots of playmates. I don't think he misses someone in particular, but the lack of daily easily accessible playmates has been hard. The other thing that I think effected him was the change in our routine. If possible try to find some fun things to do (e.g. park, place to feed ducks, etc.) near your new home and start a routine with those things as early as possible.

Happily - since you are only moving a 1/2 mile you'll still be able to see the best buddy and visit the things you are used to without too much trouble.
