I know about the religious waiver that I'm supposed to give the school but we're are focusing right now on sending DS to a synagogue preschool and so far have met w/a lot of opposition to the fact that he is unvaxed from the school administrators. Three for three, they've all said they will not take him. So barring a jewish institution, are there really good preschools that someone can recommend that is very liberal and I won't feel like they look at DS like a paraiha (sp?)?

When we sent dd to nursery school, we didn't even bring up the no vax thing (she'd actually had all her shots to 18 months when we stopped getting them). When we got the form about vax's, I simply included a letter stating why she hadn't continued them. They were fine w/ that & it was never brought up.

How do you know they have a problem w/ it? If you're bringing it up to them, you might want to consider a different approach.

My daughter goes to a Jewish Federation day care and she is selectively vaxed. I did not have any trouble at all. The administrator simply filled in "exempt" on the report to the Department of Public Welfare for all the vaxes she didn't have (or won't have).

Which synagogue preschools turned you down? I would check into DPW regulations and find out what your rights are!

Hmmm, maybe I'm brooching this all wrong. Actually, w/ the first preschool that I went to, which was a synagogue in Blue Bell, I had the grand tour, the sales pitch, and then I brought up the medical forms thing and that it wouldn't have any vaxes on it and the woman flat out said no. Actually she said something like our lawyers wouldn't allow it. That's why w/ the other schools, I'm saying it up front so I don't waste time.
Not that I'm saying it's any easier, but maybe in school adminstration eyes, they are able to write off some missing vaxes but not all of them.

This is against the law. The waiver applies to all schools, public and private. As I understand it, they cannot refuse you. I suppose it is possible that there is some exemption for preschools since preschool is not compulsory, but I doubt it.

Not sure this applies to schools with only kids below mandatory school age (probably because I think the health department only requires the form for kids of mandatory school age - 8 in Pennsylvania - in public schools...homeschoolers, for example, don't have to fill one out until age 8). I think private pre-schools are probably free to require whatever they want. They aren't under any obligation to accept a student.

That said, Abington Friends Pre-School didn't bat an eye when I submitted my form with only a check mark in the religious/ethical exemption box.

Definitely don't bring it up. Also, a lot of preschools don't ask for vax forms nad the ones that do don't even look at it. Just fill it out, hand it in, mums the word. They have to take waivers too if it comes to that. My kids' nursery school never asked for vax info.
