I'm looking for preschool movement games for co-op.

The themes for the next few weeks are:

Fish/Ocean

All About Me

Alphabet

My hour is not craft or story time but movement. So I'm not looking for any craft type activities. I'm looking for gross motor mostly.

There was a Hap Palmer CD I had checked out of the library that I think had a song called Alphabet in Motion, where there were movements for each letter. Also one called Bean Bag Alphabet Rag with things to do with a beanbag for each letter:

http://www.happalmer.com/babysongsabclyr.htm

For All About Me, maybe some body movement songs, like Head Shoulders Knees and Toes or the Hokey Pokey ?

Well, with the fish/ocean thing, would something like blind Man's Bluff work only make it where the person who is it is the shark? I've done similar games with some preschoolers and it went fine and other groups that didn't do so well, so it might not work. Can't think of anything else right now. Seems most of the games I know don't fit into those areas. Oh, wait, maybe Mother May I? and do it with a twist of, "If you have brown hair take two baby steps forward" and "if you are the only girl in your family, take one bunny hop backwards" or something like that.

Alphabet:

Alphabet Hop: Tape large letter cards in a circle on the floor. Play music, and children hop from letter to letter. Stop music and identify letters they are standing on.

Body Letters: Have children form letters with their bodies.

All About Me:

Look What I Can Do: Go around in the circle, asking each child to do an action (somersault, jumping jacks, twirl, etc.), and then the others to mimic.

Mirror Mirror: Pair the children up and have them act as mirrors, mimicking the others' movements.

Fish/Ocean:

Pretend Swimming Lessons: Blow bubbles, move arms, kick, as if they were in the water

Fishing for Fun: (Takes a lot of prep) Make a magnetic fishing game with number fish and activity fish. Have child catch one of each type of fish, and then everyone do that activity. (i.e. catches fish with a 6, and fish that says jumping jacks, everyone does 6 jumping jacks)

I don't know really what context this is in, but with some of my preschoolers (I'm a music teacher), I like doing ethnic dances. It teaches them to listen to different music, and you pick dances that can be made easy, like the hora or some easy bhangra dances.

Good luck! It sounds like a lot of fun!

here's a few links that have similar unit studies that are specifically for preschool. i thumbed through them and they have some good crafts and songs as part of their lessons. maybe that will help. here are the links:

http://www.coreknowledge.org/CK/resrcs/lessons/Prek.htm
