My local grocer stopped carrying dried figs without preservatives. I usually use them in my water kefir. Do you know if Wild Oats has them? Where do you guys buy them? TIA!

I get them from Trader Joe's. They are often labeled on packages as sulfur or sulphite free. Look at the ingredient list to make sure they don't add any other preservatives.

Thanks, Sara! We do have a Trader Joe's here, though it's a bit of a drive. It's good to know ahead of time that I can find them there.

I can't seem to find any fruit that says sulphur or sulphite free. Does buying organic cover this?
Thanks!
I believe organic fruit is usually free of chemical preservatives. I think they have to list the preservative in the label, so reading the label is a safe bet to see just what is in the dried fruit. BTW, sometimes for dried fruit, it is listed also as sulfur dioxide, which can also be listed as preservative 220, 221, 222, 223, 224, or 225.

Some organic dried fruit will use rosemary since it's a natural preservative.

Just Veggies and Made in nature are two brands that are preservative-free.
