Umm, depends on the kid (and maybe the parents). I would say anywhere from 10 months to 10 years. Still - thats not forever.

Mine goes in and out of it, it will smooth out, don't worry. Just refuse to get into power struggles with him (I know that's hard)

From 8-12 with my oldest. She's mellowing out now at 13. DS is in the midst of it, all starting around age 8 also.

Yup, DD#1 is going to be 9 next month and she is in full swing! I cannot get over how adept she is at arguing semantics. She tells "not truths" in order to get away with stuff, happily omitting lots of info in the process.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one - DS is almost 9 and driving me and DP up the wall lately. (and by "lately", I think I mean about 2 years

)

I think I'm seeing a definite swing from "unhappy kid dealing with a lot of stress" to "just plain old generally happy, but attitude-y pre-teen" so it's actually getting better for us.

I will check out the link, though.

I've been perusing the forum and haven't heard you say ONE nice thing about your precious son.

Maybe if you start thinking of him more kindly, he'll act more kindly. You could start by telling him six things you love about him EVERY DAY.

Your son deserves a mother who is proud of who he IS. He'll get over his "attitude" much faster if you treat him with love and respect, even in your thoughts.

Hey hey, I think my son is lovely, as I said. I dont come on here to praise people I come to vent as I said, and to seek advice for the probs I am having with my children. As do a lot of mamas. Chill out mama.

Amen sister!!! We come here to vent our negativity and seek support so we CAN be loving, and respectful to our sometimes difficult children. YOU hear it here so THEY don't!! A little support and understanding would be helpful!!
