Avoiding is best, I know. Kids at DD's school are "dropping like flies," though, and it's not like I'm going to keep her home all winter.

So, best preventative routine? Please post here!

Anyone?

Would it be helpful to donate a hand sanitizer bottle with pump for the kids to use as they come in to the classroom from one of the common areas?

What about daily probiotics? Do they actually kill of bad bugs?

I was coming here to post the same question! DS caught it from someone who came to the house this week, and the other 3 children already are comprimised to due to colds/sinus infections. YUCK!

I have a bottle of the hand sanitizer next to the tissues and in frequented spots. I started them on SA, Probiotics, and Ecchinacea. Hopefully this will prevent it from spreading to the rest of us!

Probiotics can make illnesses less severe. It can prevent some bacterial invasions as well (or the "take over" aspect of them). But most of the "stomach bugs" passed among kids are viral.
Handwashing is the best thing for preventing stomach bugs. Second best would be an alcohol based hand sanitizer. Alcohol based ones don't produce resistant bacteria so no worries about that.
Hand washing, sanitizer if hand washing isn't available. Probiotics can reduce severity of at least some of the viral (like rotavirus). The bacterial ones are less common for a kid not an antibiotics to pick up.
