Hi,
I just got two hemp inserts/doublers and was wondering what the prewashing instructions were.
Also, if you use pads for your menstral cycle, do you wash them separately or with dipes?
Finally, when do I add vinegar...to the last rinse cycle?
Thanks

my washer has a extra hot setting so I just washed my hemp once on that setting and it was fine. I have read that it becomes better and better with every was but it worked great for me after just one wash. ALSO it's important that you do not wash it for the first time with any pockets or synthetics because the oils can adhere to them and make them repel. Hemp is supposed to be washed more times than cotton to reach full absorbency as it contains more natural oils- I think about 5 washes is recommended. If you have just a couple, it might be easier just to boil them first then do less washes. I just boiled my hemp and did one wash before sending them into regular diaper rotation.

Regarding cloth pads, I would probably just throw them in with dipes rather than wash seperately. I figure if the wash will get the poopy bacteria out, it will take care of any crotch yuck, too. For adding vinegar, yes it is usually done in the rinse to help remove any extra build-up and to bring the pH down.

For my *pads* (I actually use newborn pfs) I put them in by themselves, do a prerinse, then add the other diapers and do a normal wash routein.

If you have a fabric softner dispenser you can put the vinegar in there and it will automatically dispense the vinegar durring the rinse cycle for you.
