OK.
So my midwife comes today and I tell her we have the time we got pg narrowed down to the 23rd or 24th. Which would have been after I ovulated.
She shares with me that it is probally a boy then cause boys tend to be after you ovulate.
Any truth to this? I'm sure there is.

I have a wonderful son- and would be fine with another boy- happy in fact.

However.... I do not have any boy names- I have been thru book after book after book. No boy names.
We also circed ds- and I do not want to go thru that again....
SO - and I really find myself looking at little girls...
WE have a u/s on the 1st- I can't help myself... and I feeling a little funny about everything now.

Well, if it was within 24 hours of ovulating, then that increases your chances of it being a boy, accoridng to the shettles method. BUt nothing is clear cut, so it could still be a girl, too!

I hear ya! We're in the same boat and DH thinks if we have another boy we would naturally circ. I have become aware and do not want to, but have not had the energy to fight it out yet. Just sitting here hoping for a girl so its all a moot point!

Barging in here, but I just wanted to let you mamas know that you *don't* have to circ if your sweet babies are boys. My first is circed and I decided after that, NEVER AGAIN. I've had two more boys (and maybe one on the way) and none of them have been. I can understand not wanting to fight the fight, but believe me when I say, it's worth it.

As for the Shettles method: all of my boys were conceived within 24 hours of ovulation. This one, though, we had sex 5 days before O. I don't know if it's a girl or a boy, we'll find out in October!

Thanks Onlyboys. I only said that I didnt want to fight just yet, but I know its in my future. My DH is very mainstream and has been dragged kicking and screaming into extended nursing, cloth diapering, home birth, etc. OK, so he has actually become an advocate of BFing and CDing, and we'll have to see how well he does with HB. But when we started talking about circing, his response was "do you have to go against the norm for everything???"

And he was there for DS' circ, DS barely cried and it healed up very easily and quickly. So its not like I can use the typical circ horror stories as evidence, since what he experienced was "no big deal."

We'll see. So I'm hoping for a girl so we can just avoid the discussion alltogether!

Well, technically the egg only survives for 24 hours, so any later should not result in conception. But the "window" for a boy is the day of and the day after ovulation. The "window" for a girl is 2-3 days prior to ovulation.

Ok, this site says

Shettles recommends that you have sex as early as 24 hours before ovulation to no more than 12 hours past ovulation in order to increase your chances of conceiving a boy.

I hate it when people hijack threads, but allow me to place my two cents also, because I must admit, circumcision is something I feel strongly about. There is an entire forum here regarding circumcision , and I encourage you to investigate both sides.

I used to not see what the big deal was about circumcision. 8 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter (initially the Doctor told me it was a boy - he was wrong,) I didn't think anything of it, until I had a coversation with a friend of mine who was opting not to cut. Then I did some research, and felt differently. It wasn't me changing my feelings overnight, but my feelings did change. Let me tell you why. Everything I will tell you can be backed up my medical research and historical evidence. Again, I urge you to research both sides of the issue.

Originally circumcision was performed in the US as it was thought to minimize masterbation in little boys. What followed was Doctors pocketing money and convincing people that it could cure everything from blindness to cancer and so on. There are so many nerve endings in the foreskin, and by removing that foreskin sexual pleasure IS reduced. Also, it makes the skin on head of the penis toughen due to friction etc. Unless the foreskin is diseased, which is extrememly rare, there are no medical benefits to circumcision. It simply accomplishes one thing - removing senisitivity to the sexual organ.

Just because something is normal and common in your area doesn't make it right. 85% of men/boys in the world are not circumcised. Little girls are also circumcised in Africa, but for some reason that is viewed as gential mutiliation whereas cutting the gentials of a little boy isn't? To me, this is not a logical conclusion.

I do know the American Academy of Pediatrics states circumcision isn't medically necessary. Also I know that the Canadian Paediatric Society also states that they do not support circing boys. http://aappolicy.aappublications.org...cs%3b103/3/686 This is a link to the American Acedemy of Pediatrics medical findings regarding circumcision. The link is a the results of a real medical research study with facts and figures by a real medical organization. It's hard to digest unless you are a doctor, but at least it is a real study and not something composed by people buying into a conspiracy.
The final paragraph is thier conclusion based on all of thier tests, facts, and figures. The final paragraph is the most important thing to read.

I apologize for hijacking the thread.

In regards to if it is a little boy or not, there are all sorts of wives tales out there predicting boys or girls. For every 100 girls born, there are 105 boys born. So the odds are slightly greater than 50/50 that it will be ab oy. Other than that, the only real way to determine the sex of the baby is by ultrasound (which is not always fully reliable) or waiting until he/she is born! :LOL

As far as circumcision goes, I think you and your dh should talk about it and he should not railroad you. I can't offer any advice, because I have no idea of the cultural pressures you're facing.
Erm- the Shettles method.
. If you have sex daily, what's more likely? Boy or girl?

Mrs. Moe, thank you so much for posting all of that information! I wanted so badly to compile such concise info but my two darlings are down with chickenpox and I just did not have the time. You said everything I would have said had I gotten more than 2 hours of broken sleep :LOL

We were told we were going to have a boy the first pg because of the ovulation thing, the chinese calender, and a pendulum test. They all said boy. and apparently they were right, But who knows?

As far as the circumcision goes, we were going to because dh is
(TMI?) and then some guy randomly mentioned it at a bonfire get together. So I looked it up online and was appalled by the consequences of circ. So we didn't. I know a family with two boys, one is and one isn't, and they call the one that isn't "Jared in the hood." Thought that was a little humorous but they said it really didn't seem to be an issue between the brothers.

We will not circ if it is a boy- I am just weirded out by the whole thing. i am sorry. I am
It looks foreign to me. But so did nursing a 2 year old- which I do now.
I will show it all to dh and he will agree- we will feel more confident in our decision with info to back it up. That is what we have done till now.
Thanks
