Probiotic capsules to try to help get GBS-

1264 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  kcparker
So I was going through a few threads here and read some are taking/took probiotic capsules prior to being tested for GBS to try to lower their chance for getting a +. Well, now that I am with a new careprovider it is basically 1 of few things they kind of push (though, you could refuse but then you and baby are treated like you have it which for a self paying client would cost me more especially if I test -).

Where do you all get yours? There are really no good health stores near me (very small one but not even sure what they have to offer) so I would most likely just order from online. I basically have 2 wks now to get something in my system.

Thanks, LM

I actually found some yogurt at the grocery store that boasts probiotics. I also bought a bottle of acidophilous (I know I spelled that wrong!
) from the department store. Am sure it's not as good as what you can get at a specialty health food store, but I figured it was better than nothing.

this is the best product I have ever taken:
http://www.jarrow.com/product/228/Jarro_Dophilus_EPS

You can get it at whole foods, online (you can find good deals), and even smaller health food stores carry it. It was the first shelf stable product in the probiotic bacteria world. Perfect for purses!
The probiotics will definitely help, though I'd also recommend taking a bunch of vit c (like, 1000mg+ a day--not all at once). Stonyfield Farms yogurt has the most live cultures.

If you're serious about testing negative, however, I have to say that you should just go ahead and do a Hibiclens (chlorhexidene) wash before you test. It has no negative side effects, and is a pretty sure way to kill off any GBS.

Protocol here.
I just ordered Jarrow Fem-Dophilus and Jarro-Dophilus EPS for this purpose from iherb.com. The Fem-Dophilus needs to be cold shipped and refridgerated, and only iherb seems to be good for this. If you decide to get the EPS or something else that is shelf stable you could check out vitacost.com, their prices are a bit better. You could also try the garlic in the yoni trick!
Thanks for the quick responses!

So if I understand correctly as long as it is w/in 6 hrs or so since it says to repeat every 6 hrs of testing I should be good?

Thanks again, LM

Another option is to eat a LOT of garlic, or use half a raw clove as a vaginal suppository for a week or two before you get tested. Here's a protocol for it.

I did it and was negative, a friend just ate a lot of garlic (raw and cooked) and was negative. I can't say that we wouldn't have been negative if we had done nothing, and a sample size of two is meaningless, but I'd stow it in the 'can't hurt, might help' category.
