probiotics and poop (in a toddler)

870 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  tayndrewsmama
Last week I put my DS on infant's probiotics mainly beacause of his persistent problem with yeast rashes. His poop has for several months now been soft yet formed most of the time (sorry if that's TMI). For the past couple of days it's been like thin peanut beutter, almost runny! Is that just the probiotics at work? And if so, do you know why they would cause this? Just curious.

Hmm, I don't know. I didn't even know they carried a probiotic formula for toddlers. What brand is it and where do you get it? I think ds could benefit greatly from one as he's always had poopy issues and is lactose intolerant. I hope someone can help you w/your question.
It's Udo's Choice Infant's Blend Probiotic. I ordered it from vitacost.com. Maybe it could help your DS.
I might be wrong, but I was always under the understanding that probiotics were supposed to eliminate any form of diarreah or runny poops. Ds's poop has gotten more solid since we switched to raw milk and he's begun drinking kefir (with berries of course
). Perhaps the probiotics you are using are no longer active.

As far as the lactose intolerance, ds was hospitalized twice at six months for internal bleeding due to dairy products in MY diet. He is doing absolutely EXCELLENT now (at 2 1/2) on the organic, raw dairy. Something to keep in mind is that kefir is the result of a culturing process that eliminates lactose in it. It was a nerve wracking decision, but I had reached the end of my rope and ran out of options for him, dd and myself with our digestive issues. The only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner.
