I have schizoaffective disorder, and have just moved into the VA beach area, and was wondering if anybody knew of a psychiatrist that is not going to give me any heat about bf-ing my 16 month old son and using meds for my disorder...any suggestions?

(I wrote a few weeks ago asking for a bf friendly psych for Northern VA, well surprise surprise, my husband moved us...again.)

I used to see Dr. Paul Mansheim at the DePaul Hospital in Norfolk. He oversaw my meds for PPD. I don't know how he would be about your situation, only because I wasn't nursing. He did ask me if I was nursing and said that we could switch from Prozac to Zoloft, but didn't seem to be "all up in my business" or anything. I wish I knew more about him before referring, but he is avery very nice and quiet. Seems like he would be easy to get along with/compromise with. Good luck mama!!

Thanks for the welcomes

Now comes the tricky part...I will check to see if my iffy piffy insurance company covers Dr. Paul Mansheim and then, whether or not they are accepting new patients...

Wow miracle of miracles....1, they are covered by my insurance and 2 they were accepting new patients.

last year, i went through this, lots of doc suggestions, none of which my insurance covered.

so hitting the target on the first doc recommendation is great news to me..

my appointment has FINALLY come around. It is tomorrow, I will let you know how it goes.

i decided not to tell him i'm nursing. i'll just let him prescribe me whatever he thinks, and then go to dr. hale's website and check it out to see if it's safe or not, and go from there.

yeah, i just got back. He's a pretty cool doctor, pretty laid back. He didn't ask me if I was nursing or anything (probably assumed I wasn't...)
