Hi! Anyone dealing with this? Excessive saliva. I did not have this with my DS. I am 13 weeks and this is ruling my life! It is such a handicap to carry around a cup to spit in, not to mention the "bloopers" that occur living life with a cup full of spit. I'm embarassed and disguisted by it. I know that it is benign and that there is really nothing to do to stop it, but I just want to know I"m not alone. I know there are mamas out there, or this wouldn't have a name!! However, whenever I've tried to get support from mammas I meet, they look at my like I'm disguisting and they've never heard of it. I know this is my hormones, but it makes me want to slap them and walk away. My midwife says this will probably last the whole pregnancy. I cannot imagine. Anybody else?

I get it with every pregnancy. I spit constantly! I found a cup a little to gross-the sound of the spit hitting the cup or the spit already in there makes me gag. I usually spit into a tissue or paper towel if there are people around. Otherwise, I spit on the ground, in the sink, bathtub or toilet. DH teases me saying," Oh, that's ladylike!" It's preferable to vomiting, so I keep spitting!
Do what you have to and know that it is pretty common.

m&gsmom, how often do you spit? For me it is like every 30 seconds. You are right, the cup is gross, but it is portable. I do use a towel in bed at night because of the many accidents with the cup. Also, with your other pregnancies, when did it end??? Thanks so much for your reply!

Sometimes I spit every few seconds, sometimes not for an hour or so. It comes and goes, along with my morning sickness. I find that when I start needing to spit really frequently I'm likely to get sick soon. I think it ended about when the really bad morning sickness ended, which was about 20 weeks last two pregnancies. This time I'm at 27 weeks, still spitting a lot, still puking once a week ( a definite improvement over 4 times per day
). I think, like so many things, it varies from woman to woman. I try to think of it as a minor inconvenience, much easier to deal with than complications such as placentia previa. I know it's a pain but in the grand scheme of things it's small. And remember, it will definitely end when the baby is born!

I had it until about 20 weeks here. Then it slowly disappeared and only surfaces when I eat something starchy.

What helped me was rescue remedy. I just put a couple drops under my tongue when it was really bad and it helped! I was shocked.

I carried a paper towel, but it still was really, really gross.

Good luck to youl.

You are very right, Suzy. It is a minor deal and I should be thankful this is the worst I have to deal with. I'll try to remember that. As far as it coming back when you eat starching things, Amanda, I wonder if that is true for me. See, I'm a vegetarian, so the majority of my diet is probably starchy. Starchy means stuff like bread and pasta and carbs like that, right? Thanks guys!
