For dd's birthday cake last night mil bought her a Winnie the Pooh icecream cake. It was trimmed in blue frosting and dd got a corner piece. Within in moments her mouth was blue, her hands, and even her chest. "Amawa has blue nipple!"

The icing smelled like licorice which we assume was used to make the food coloring.

This morning she had a major poo that was diarreah like and bright green! It was so nasty. She almost always poos on the toilet so we could figure out why she had gone in her diaper then we remembered that licorice has a laxative effect. All that icing in her tiny body certainly reacted.

Her butt was still blue after we washed it off (finally came off in the bath).

Thank goodness it wasn't one of my wool pieces that she was wearing.

Oh, and since it was cloth it wasn't a blow out (I can't imagine cleaning green poop off the carpet, yuck)

Happy Birthday Amara!

Yup, My DD has the same problem. She can't even eat a tiny amount of something blue, green, or red without a huge diarrhea problem (sometimes for days). We assume it's an allergy to food coloring, as the reaction can be so severe and from such a tiny amount of dye. (Like last weekend, my dad gave Miriam *one* blue M&M, and no other candies with it - green poo for a day and half) For us, it's a new problem, as she used to be able to eat colored things (bad mommy!) but no longer.

This can actually work in your favor. When someone wants to feed your kids Fruit Loops or something, you can decline without them questioning your weird AP habits!

Happy Birthday Amara!

Hope she feels better and glad no wool was injured. Thanks for the heads up, I dont always realize all the things that are so unnatural, cake frosting though its obvious dyed, has never crossed my mind to have such effects. Is it different if you make your own cakes and use the cake dyeing kits? Or is it all the same?

I didn't even think about it. We try to avoid artificial dyes but it didn't cross my mind when she was eating the cake.
